Asuming Will Allen recovers complelety from his acl injury, how are we going to use. Do we place him back into the starting lineup and move one of the rookies back to nickel cb, or does Allen become the nickel cb. I personally think that Allen would be a great nickel cb covering the slot. Smith and Davis both really dont have the quickness to cover the slot either. One thing to consider is Allen will be a year older, and would the organization have a problem have the highest paid nickel cb. (With Davis, Allen,Wilson,Bell thats alot of money committed to just the secondary.

First of all Vontae is more than quick enough to play the slot. But anyway assuming Allen does come back at 100% just start whoever the best two CB's are and then on pass downs/multiple WR sets let either Vontae or Allen cover the slot. Either Davis or Allen would excel there but not Smith IMO so keep him outside even if he's not starting you just move either Davis or Allen in on pass downs and put Smith outside.

I agree with you here. But do you keep Jones and Allen as the 4th and 5th CBs in this scenario?

Will has been the most underrated CB in the NFL since joining us. Incase many of you have forgotten Vontae and Shaun was taken under Will's wing from the very start and that is why they performed the way they did. Will is the CB on their #1. In 2 wides it will be Will and Vontae and Smith will come in on 3 wides and take the #2 WO while Vontae takes the slot. I can't believe so many people are underrating Will around here.

Wow, the 1# coming back off an ACl tear. Now, I do believe Allen is underated on this board. But coming back a year older, with a ACL tear i can' see that. Thinking about it more, I think our best option would be Davis and Allen as the starters. Then just move Allen to slot with 3 wide sets.(All our the assumpation Allen recovers at least 90% from injury.) I don't trust Smith's tackling enough to keep him on the field with only 2 wrs.

Will knows all the tricks of the trade and is a valued mentor to Smith and Davis. Smith needs 2 more years IMO before he is ready to be a fulltime starter. Jones is no more than a dime back and I'm not even sure he is the best we have to cover that position.

Jones will be a low tendered RFA and may be given an offer sheet. We may lose him.
