McCoach coming from SF, I’d love to see him try to remake our LB room in the image of SF’s group. They are fast, versatile, and athletic.
Valid and thanks for checking post June 1. In that case Byron Jones is definitely gone. On June 1.The same rock that tells me that Jones' 23 contract isn't guaranteed and a post June 1st cut only carries a $4.8 million hit.
Think about that and this for a while longer...the cap has rarely kept a good team from fielding a good team.
I have a feeling he'll be as healthy as an ox and ready to restructure with us as opposed to negotiating with another team after this BS season he put on his resume'.Valid and thanks for checking post June 1. In that case Byron Jones is definitely gone. On June 1.
Surprising you think Byron will be back. I sure wish I knew what happened this year. We really could use his length and experience out there.I have a feeling he'll be as healthy as an ox and ready to restructure with us as opposed to negotiating with another team after this BS season he put on his resume'.
I'm more concerned about how bad Howard has fallen off. Make me think his contract negotiation had that in mind.
As much as I feel that he should be booted with extreme prejudice, there was something going on behind the scenes. We've played this game, if it is a game, too long for nothing to come of it...Surprising you think Byron will be back. I sure wish I knew what happened this year. I'm jumping in here!! But what makes you think the offensive positions are going to be rated higher than the defensive positions at that point? You really have no idea how they are going to rate those positions, plus, there seems to be quite a bit of linebackers that will be available around our picks in the second...Yeah man all respect for sure.
I don’t disagree with you at all but the board will also dictate somewhat which way we go. As of TODAY… RB/OT/TE are going to be rated much higher at that point in the draft than what would be available considering which positions on defense we need.
That’s why I’m assuming at this point that the 2nd rounder will be used on offense. We need RB/OT/TE and those positions will be available when we pick and the guys at those positions will more than likely be graded fairly higher than the grades we have on the defensive positions we need at that point in the draft.
Now of course this is all hearsay at this point bc we have to finish the season and do our evaluations and go through free agency and the combine and all that so player grading will change significantly from the point we’re at right now.
Basically I’m saying don’t reach for a position on defense just bc we need defense more. That’s what got us in this mess in the first place by reaching on guys like Jackson and Iggy. Instead of BPA or taking a position we didn’t need as much but had higher rated guys… we decided to reach for OT and CB bc they thought that’s what we needed most at the time.
The hell with that philosophy. You stick to your board and you select the guy you have rated highest even if we do need defense more. The best teams in the league take BPA when all else fails and that’s why they remain near the top year after year.
Before the Chubb signing I proposed signing Roquan Smith, for a 1st and a player. I was ridiculed. I felt LB was more important, for reasons we readily seen several times this year. Chubb was, and is similar to Ogbah, and earlier Raekwon McMillan. A step slow from making a ply. We saw that again last night.. he was also so a second slow to react. Maybe with a new DC, a better overall scheme, Chubb can be what we hope he will be. What complicates things is the usual Grier overpay to good, not great players like Ogbah. What looked like decent cap management is not going to allow the Fins a lot of options for dynamic players in 2023.Of course it's hindsight now but the signs were there. They should have never traded for Chubb. He looked like a non factor again tonight. That 1st round pick and cap space could been used more wisely. Not sure what they are going to do about Byron Jones. X isn't playing up to his contract but not really much of an option replacing him next season. Kohou has been a nice surprise and hopefully he keeps improving. Have to find a better replacement for Needham. They need Brandon Jones back next season, The defense really misses him. Not sure how they will fill at least 2 LB spots and 2 CB spots with above averages starters while also filling the needs on offense. Biggest move that can make is replacing Boyer with a proven Defensive Coordinator.
X did his impression of a coach Prime tackle. The tackling has been poor the last few weeks, especially in the secondary.Jerome Baker needs to go to Billy Blanks's summer camp in Thailand doing Tae Bo in some bow ties ya feel me
I’m going by different sourcing to piece it together since we’re so far out. Some media guys I really respect evaluations… my own evaluations from film and other scouts that I know.I'm jumping in here!! X has a post June 1 cap hit of 10M. That’s a poison pill but this franchise has taken bigger ones (Suh for example). As much as I feel that he should be booted with extreme prejudice, there was something going on behind the scenes. We've played this game, if it is a game, too long for nothing to come of it...
IF he is indeed injured he comes back next season (restructured) and makes Howard expendable. If he's on some BS, he gets cut on June 2nd and tries to get a good deal with another team who have knowledge that he played "dirty pool" the prior season.
We are good with Jones. His situation is just frustrating. I'm more concerned with dealing with Howard (trade for anything).
I was behind him in his contract renegotiations...in retrospect, that whole thing gets the sideeye.X has a post June 1 cap hit of 10M. That’s a poison pill but this franchise has taken bigger ones (Suh for example).
The X regression is astonishing. This is why we need to let players “graduate” and build with young talent that is affordable. This franchise continues to overpay for declining talent. Instead of investing in ascending talent.
