It's no secret that Randy Mcmichael has been regressing. I have a feeling that he and Saban may not have gotten along. I am also aware of Randy's off the field issues as well.
Here's what I'm saying: Cameron turned a virtually annonymous tight end into the best in the leauge. Who's to say that he can't turn around Randy's career as well? Randy has the athleticism, we've known that ever since he flew against the Saints his rookie year. Maybe Cam will get Randy to work on his hands and Randy, knowing Cam's track record with Antonio Gates will respond well.

I've been posting it for a while now, that Saban caused some friction among our inner ranks. I also said that this may be Randy's and CC's last chance. Hopefully they both respond.

Cam likes to pay attention to detail so that in itself should help not only McMichael but everyone else as well. Cameron also likes to put players in position to best use their abilities. If McMichael can be used to stretch the middle of the field, then the offensive passing game should improve. If he has to stay in and block...well.

Why would it be CC's last chance? He's only had one bad year under a system that didn't utilize his abilities to its fulliest.

I think we should trade McMike for whatever we can get. Then draft Zach Miller, TE, Arizona State, in the 2nd round. Miller doesn't drop passes like
McMike does every week.

Anyone catch that one play called in the New England game where Rivers hit Gates going across the field around the fifty and he was open by about 15 yds? When did Mularkey ever call a play that fooled anyone like that for Mcmike. I think if we get one or two upgrades on the offensive line where we dont need to keep mcmike in to block he'll definitely be involved more. And my gut tells me that McMike is going to enjoy playing for him so maybe the drops improve. Hopefully same for Chambers

With exception of his rookie year, it just seems to me (and many others) that he has underachieved every year and never seems be be the guy we expect. Especially with a contract like his. I still don't think he deserved his probowl bid last year either. "Last chance" doesn't just mean getting rid of him, it also could mean pay cut, and or being the #2 guy. I mean really. How many time do we have to hear that "This is going to be CC's year"? We used to say that about Rob Conrad every year too.

The pay cut I'm all for or at the very least a restructuring of his contract. Being "demoted" to #2 all depends on someone stepping up to being the #1 receiver. So far no one has really done that.

Mcmike was his own worst enemy. Saban had little to do w/ his dropped passes and whiffing on some blocks. He needs to just play better regardless who his coach is.

I can't see any reason why Cam cant get the best out of R. Mcmichael... last year, our oline was pretty shoddy, especially in the beginning, and that forced our offense to keep the TE's in to block more frequently, effectively taking away another threat to catch the ball... then, its like all of a sudden Mcmichael forgot how to catch the ball! but I think that it was all a temporary thing... Randy didnt really have a defined role all year, was going through some personal issues, and may have just been suffering from being part of a really stagnant, predictable offense... if Cam can bring in upgrades along the oline and lets Houck couch em up, it would free Randy up to be the receiving tight end that he is... I expect Randy to rebound and put his money where is mouth is...

I agree with you on this one... true, Chambers didnt exactly play up to par and seemed to have more drops than usual this year, but in his defense, the offensive scheme had a big part of it... the passing attack was largely predictable, we had a revolving door at quarterback, and after a Pro Bowl season teams were throwing coverage Chambers way all the time... I love Marty Booker, but he really isnt the kind of threat to make a team step back from Chambers and say "well, maybe we should cover that OTHER guy a little more closely" ... but seriously, I think with a new system, the return of a healthy Daunte, and another threat on the outside/slot (not knowing of course if Booker will be retained or not, as well as Welker) Chambers should have a MUCH better year...I'd give him at LEAST one more year to show he is THE MAN in Aqua and Orange...

Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like McMichael was noticeably heavier and slower last season than he had been in the past.

No it wasn't just you who noticed that. I think the combination off the field issues and knowing he was going to be used more as a blocker effected him as well.

When Randy first came to us, he was the new breed of TE. The ones who created matchup problems with their size, strength and speed. He was too fast for a LB and too big and strong for a DB. Those attributes would not define his game nowadays. I think the previous regime may have tried to make him into more of a blocking TE instead of the natural matchup problem he came into the league as. I hope Cam makes him lose a few lbs. (which he may have gained to help with blocking) and returns him to his natural form. Randy has immense talent, up there with Heap, Gates and Shockey. It's just time now for him to dedicate himself to becoming a better football player because we all know he's got the talent.
