I was just wondering if anyone had any info on Dan Henning's future with the Dolphins? Could he possibly be replaced, or is he already signed up for 2010?
IMO...He isn't the worst OC in the league, but sure as hell ain't in the top tier. I'd put him around 20-22 out of the 32. The WildCat was an awesome move, that so many teams tried to emulate but just can't run it like us. There were some good calls here n there at the right time.
But overall, I think it was a majority of bad calls, wrong calls at the wrong time, & looked like he didn't really know what our O players strengths were to call the right plays. Now it's not all him when it comes to utilizing the talent correctly...but he's calling the plays, which I think should be upgraded a little. I'm sure as hell no expert, but the great OC's know how to utilize their players strengths, & I really didn't see that from us. It looked like a lot of players doing things that weren't their strengths. Henne has a strong arm which wasn't used that much this year. Ginn has speed, but not so good hands except on the deep ball. Ronnie can run good off tackle. Ricky can run good up the gut & bouncing it out to off tackle if need be. I mean, that's just some common knowledge things by DolFans, but why aren't we seeing our players playing their strengths enough? There were many 3rd & 5+ that we were in this year, & that's where I thought was really the worst play calling. A really lot of quick 2-3 yd slants??? It was a rare thing to see a 10+ yd pass, & Henne got the arm to make those passes. And granted we need a #1 WR desperately, but Cam, Hartline, Bess, & Ginn all have different talents & could of been catching a lot better of passes. They're just running their route, & Henne is just throwing to their route...but that's where I think the problem is...bad play calling.
I hope that Henning does a lot better job this year if he is gonna remain with us. Unless it's bc his hands are tied...idk...but play calling needs to get better. We're not that far off, if we just stop with mistakes & bad play calling on both sides of the ball. The DC was addressed...is the OC next? Or does he stay?
