Depends on your definition of "full potential" I suppose.

For example, if you put him at free safety, and left him there, getting multiple pro bowl selections, that's an awesome individual accomplishment.

If you used his ability to play multiple positions, he may not get as many individual accolades, but you field a measurably better overall defense.

Which one of those option would you say "fulfills his potential"?

Im not saying those are the actual, and only choices, but given those two, what are your thoughts?

Brian Flores is the most qualified human being there is to make that determination.

It’s football, he’s a great player and he will figure it out.. Week to week the scheme is gonna change so he’s got to be diverse anyways.

I think the slot is what he likes, he sees it from there well, he’s closer to the LOS where he can use his diagnosing skills to blow up plays, good blitzer, I have no problem moving him around some from time to time, matchup dependent..

I think it’s great to have a very talented player who can play multiple positions. I hope we keep drafting these type players. I want our team to be a matchup nightmare for teams to scheme against. FinsUp

He will Definitely reach his full potential by playing different secondary roles.

He has serious potential.

Local sports writers have to write to get paid.

They don't have to write anything good, actually they don't even try.

It's all about controversy.

They don't even understand what they are writing about most of the time.

Safeties get different roles in different defenses, they are forced to cover as CBs at times depending on the called defense.

Hell it might be the only way....

I will wait to see how he’s used in this new scheme and system.

All I know is he damn well better be playing every snap. I don’t care what package it is. Otherwise ehh

One of Flores' espoused main principles is having all his best players on the field.

If Minkah isn't on the field for 80%+ defensive snaps, I would be unpleasantly suprised.

In a post recently there was a video of Jamal Adams. When you have someone with that ability to diagnose plays it would be a waste to only have him play deep middle field.

I do think Minkah has that ability and is more versatile. If he can carry coverage on the shifty WR's and RB's, handle TE's, blow up running plays, and effectively blitz; that is worth more to me than "just a FS".

I'd keep him in the slot where he has played the most and seems the most comfortable. I think he impacts the game more there. We just need another good CB opposite Xman.

I like how this defense will attack differently every week. Should be harder for offenses to prepare for.

As others have said, it’s that very versatility that is such a significant aspect of his value.

I remember when the Steelers switched out Carnell Lake from strong safety to corner. I honestly thought at the time that it wouldn’t work. But he did very well. It’s nice to have a versatile player that can step up across different positions in a pinch.

I’d love to see us develop more players with versatility. For example, we’ve needed this for years on the offensive line. It’d be great to have a Bob Kuechenberg who could go fill a leak practically anywhere. If our LT is hurt, it’d be nice to have somebody be able to flip out there and hold down the fort.

Michael Dieter may have some of that, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that he is strong enough to play at this level.

You should see some similar video from Ed reed then.

Yup! And initially lining up in the slot still allows him to get deep middle field responsibilities with a little creativity...
