Will Gator Hoskins make the team

We have hurt for capable TE play from our backups for a while now. There is no way we let a guy like Hoskins go. He may be somewhat raw, but he has ability, something that Egnew nor Sims really have and those are guys we spent mid-rounders on.

When we signed Hoskins as a UDFA, people said "this guy can play, watch and see."

Well I watched, and I saw. Kid can play.

I don't understand what he's really done to this point? Is it the cool name?

One great play and one other play where he didn't get his head around in time and dropped the ball. I don't know if any of these guys went to the TC, but that is all I have seen in games.

He's been injured most of camp so I don't know how much the staff has to go on. Right now he's a fan favorite like Chris Hogan was (I remember some people on here saying after he got cut that the Patriots would pick him up and turn him into a star....still waiting on that) without having done anything but make one catch. I suppose his main competition is Kyle Miller since Arthur Lynch seems headed to IR...today Lynch didn't even practice...unless they just cut him outright.

Hoskins and Miller will get plenty of run in the next game to see who gets the roster spot.

1) He's a Charles Clay clone. He can catch the deep ball in stride, break tackles, catch jump balls, block, play TE, H-back, fullback.

2) He was impressive in training camp.

3) He missed the first two preseason games with a hamstring pull. But when given a chance in the 3rd preseason game, he showed his explosive playmaking ability.

If the YouTube highlight was what scouts went off of...why did he go undrafted?

The article about camp was written the day camp opened (July 29th)...his "impressive" camp was actually OTAs when there were no pads on...he's been injured for the majority of camp (pulled his hamstring after the intra squad scrimmage reported August 4th...5 days after camp opened)...and just got back a few days before preseason game 3.

One play is not explosive play making ability to me. Brett Brackett has shown more than that and no one is talking about him...wonder why?

Same reason Charles Clay fell to the 6th round. Small school prospect, shorter than what most NFL teams want in a TE, and mediocre 40 time. But get the ball in the hands of Clay or Gator, and they make explosive plays on the field.

Training camp opened on July 25th.

Brett Brackett is ok, but guys like him are pretty easy to find. Guys like Clay & Gator are explosive playmakers and game changers.

You're just making stuff up now. Didn't Hoskins have 12 TD receptions last year? Or was it 15 TDs? That doesn't get overlooked regardless of position, not when you lead the nation in TD receptions for your position in a fairly weak TE draft class too. Hoskins ran 4.73 at his pro day...nearly identical numbers as Clay. Brett Brackett, who played at Penn State, ran 4.61 at his pro day...he's also 6'6". A 6'6" TE that runs that fast is not easy to find. Larry Webster who's 6'6" and ran 4.58 at the combine and went to Division II Bloomsburg was taken in the 4th round by the Lions.

Incidentally a 4.73 40 would have been the 4th fastest TE at the combine but at 6' 1 1/2" Hoskins was viewed more as a FB.

Why don't you give TE Michael Egnew a call. At the combine, he measured 6'5", 252 lbs, 4.62 speed, and played against top tier college teams.

TE John Nalbone is also available, and he had a 4.6 time in the 40.

My point is that guys like Brett Brackett are not that hard to find.

And when you put too much emphasis on height & 40 times, you end up with Michael Egnews & John Nalbones, while missing out on the Charles Clays & Gator Hoskins.

Michael Egnew played in a bubble gum offense at Missouri...he had no business being drafted in the 3rd round. It takes more than 40 times to convince me just like it takes more than one preseason catch.

Since they let go of Brackett, Hoskins obviously has made this team. Too bad they didn't cut miller and keep Brackett. belicheat has Brackett's jersey on order as we speak.

not every player we cut will be picked up by new england.
