Dan Marino’s single-season yardage record of 5,084 has stood for 27 years. This year, it seems like a real possibility that the record will fall. QB's are slinging it all over the place.

QB, Yards, Translated through 16 games

Tom Brady - 940 Yards - 7,520 Yards
Cam Newton - 854 Yards - 6,832 Yards
Drew Brees - 689 Yards - 5,512 Yards

The kicker is that Brady just has to average 296 yards per game to break the record.

Do you think the record will be broke?

no Brady will have to go through the jets defense and better defenses along the way same goes to cam and brees.. but anything can happen

its so irrelevant whether it does or dosent.

dan marinos record will always be the record that is looked at whether its broken or not.

the man not only broke it in his 2nd year, he demolished it. if marino was around today, he would set new records like no one can imagine

just has to AVERAGE 300 yards a game u said? lol. ok. coming into this season how many 400 yard games did brady have in his career? 1? granted they are clearly a pass first offense now, and woodhead out of the backfield is such a tremendous weapon. because he is another slot receiver but he can get yards between the tackles - damn these guys know how to use talent. tremendous vision belicheck has.

even still 300 yards is alot to average. this is no foregone conclusion. based on their offense i say brady finally breaks the record. BUT alot has to go right. and even if its broken, i dont know if a quarterback will ever have a year that compares to what dan accomplished that year.

Very true. Today's league is extremely WR friendly, and pass happy. It was much different when Marino shattered the record.

Are you referring to the Jets D that he hung 45 points on? He just torched last years number one D for 35 points and 400 plus yards. Also, the Pats D stinks and that means he will be throwing all game every game.

The only thing that I see slowing him down is injuries to either him or the receivers...otherwise, record broken.

I think Brady will do it this year, yeah. Eventually it was going to happen. I wish there was a way to adjust for "passing inflation" thanks to all the rule changes but everyone knows 5k 27 years ago was much, much harder than 5k in 2012.

It will be broken this year, and not only by one QB, but 2 or 3 different QBs. The NFL's business model is to throw the ball and it was really apparent right from the start of the season. Marino's record falls this year.

Defenses not facing much contact in camp has the D around the league behind, guys don't wrap or dive they do however like to rach for a hammie when they know the camera is on them, I am guuessing pretty bad, would like someone to add up all the league YAC...?

On a local sports radio program the fellow made a good comment when he said it takes a lot more time to fine tune the running offense because you cannot fake the hitting and contact of the run game while with the pass game you can practice without true contact - you can run patterns on timing and footwork - I think the Defenses will catch up but by that point the big QB numbers will be in the front end of the season.

I wonder if Defenses and Olines don't need that contact to fine tune their game

Isn't overall field position worse due to the kickoff being at the 35 instead of the 30? That could inflate some yardage numbers right?

One thing you have to remember when QB's are breaking Marino's records: It's taking multiple QB's and multiple years to break records set by Marino in ONE season. So whether it gets broken or not, Marino's '84 season- to me- is still the greatest ever.

Sadly I think it will be. And worse by Brady probably. I think it's amazing the record is still intact with the way the game has changed to help QBs. I tell people how Marino would of had 6,000 yards and 55+ TDs if he played in this decade and of course living in Maine they all laugh at me and talk about how much better Brady is.

That was last year.. and the jets play the pats well look at the playoffs -_- like i said anything can happen. It can be broken because its a passing league and defenses are ****

brady is a very good qb. he will never be dan marino.

i dont care what people throw at me, superbowls, etc, superbowls are won by teams, not individuals. dan marino is the best qb to play the position period.
