I hope like hell Saban drops this guy. (IF Saban doesn't leave). Going into next season with him as OC would be very discouraging. The play-calling this season has been some of the worst I have ever seen. The play calling in crucial situations was bad and he played AWAY from our strengths and INTO the opposing defenses strengths most of the time.
Alot of people think continuity is the way to go. And in some things I agree. But a change in this situation is absolutely the right thing to do. There are many situations around the league where a new coordinator comes in and the offense (or defense) improves vastly. A coach must be able to adapt to the players he has. Mularkey obviously can't do that.
Out of 16 games this season, there were only 2 in which the offense actually looked like it had any rhythm at all. And that was only in spurts. I don't think we played a game all year in which we sustained any sort of rhythm over the entire game. The play calling had no rhyme or reason.
We played out of shotgun on a huge percentage of 3rd and shorts, eliminating in possible element of surprise other than a draw - which we had very little success at. It was absolutely mind boggling to see the frequency in which we did this. The predictability was at least as bad as it has been in 5 years or more.
The Mularkey mistake needs to be eliminated immediately. Another year of this is too long. Cut the losses now and move on. We have some talent. (We need more help obviously). But we have to have someone who knows how to bring out the best in who we have and the players who will be coming in. Mularkey failed miserably. It's time to let him go.
