I've been watching to see what info I can pick up on the Fins' offense going to the "high-octane" version they've talked about. Being from Oregon, I have seen the Duck's successfully execute their 2-minute offense for a full season. Personally, I would LOVE to see them pull that off, but don't think they can for an entire season. Since I see staying healthy, winning the takeaway/giveaway war, and not committing stupid penalties as the things that will lead to a playoff-calibre season, I think it's asking a lot. BTW, those are some of the biggest reasons we won the division last time out.

The other big thing I see this year as a key factor is 3rd down efficiency. If we can use the 2-minute offense to put ourselves into more short yardage "wins" on 2nd and 3rd downs I think it will take a lot of pressure off the offense. Also, while Hartline and Bess haven't put up huge stats, I like them both because they CATCH the ball when the team needs them. I think if they come through this year with even above averages (say, 800 yds and 5 TD's each) I think it will go a long way to making this a successful years. I am really high on Clay, I am hoping that we can put him into some more isolated routes this year. He's a matchup monster.

I am hopeful the O-line will stay healthy, and play more cohesively. We'll see.

It's sure has to be better than anything we saw with Sparano, Henning or Daboll running the offense, no?

yes I believe so. My biggest issue with Henning was that when he had to call a pass, it normally had one guy going deep, a RB to dump the fall to, and the other targets running to basically the same spot of the field. I vividly remember Henne's interception against the Browns 2 years ago he literally had 4 targets all in the same part of the field; and they were all right around the first down marker. While you can win with Dink and Dunk passes (Pats won 3 Super Bowls doing it) you need diversity to your playbook. You know it's bad when the opposing defense has players saying they knew the play way ahead of time.

Daboll was better at diversity, he just A)had no idea how to use Bess B)didn't have good short yardage run plays.

Neither could call red zone plays for their life.

In short. Philbin is encouraging big plays and scoring. Sparano was more about eating up the clock.

Good take re check down routes...I've thought for a couple years that we didn't seem to be on the same page as teams like NO and NE that utilized check down passes and seemed darned near automatic. It will be interesting to see what the play selection will be. I have always been a Bess fan, I think he is going to light it up.

Yes it will. If we can run a precise up tempo offense (AND GET FIRST DOWNS- this is the important part) we will reveal any defense that isn't in tip top condition and when they begin to slack, we can take advatage of that.

I'm probably in the minority thinking this but I don't think we'll be trying to hurry up on offense in games. I don't think we'll be trying to snap the ball with 10-15 seconds left on the play clock...that would kill our defense IMO. I think the faster pace in practice allows us more reps and forces the QBs, entire offense and defense to process things faster and then when the games come things will seem slower to both sides of the ball. I think it will help when we do execute the 2 minute offense and there may be occasions where we go with a hurry up (like Brady does) to throw the defense off and not let them change personnel but I don't see us doing it all the time.

I know the defense has been practicing at the same pace and they should be in shape but keep in mind we have 90 bodies in camp right now and that gets trimmed down significantly for the season which means reps for the starters will double during the season and that's a heavy load over 16 games.

No...scoring touchdowns in the redzone will. Scoring after we stop the opposing offense will. Closing games will. No matter how fast this pace will be it won't matter unless we score, defend, and close. I mean if we can play with half of the confidence and chemistry we did the second half of last year, this team will dominate. Yes, even with our wr core. TBH if Philbin's playbook is well thought out and he coaches our guys to execute each play to some extent that he envisioned; This team will have no problem on the offensive side of the ball. I understand that we lack the necessary talent on the offensive side but I am sure Philbin knows this. We have enough tools to make this season entertaining at the least.

Would love to see us running an up tempo offensive pace this season. Would bring back some of the heat advantage that we used to have.

Talking the TALK ... and Walking the WALK ... are 2 different things & our offense has unknowns all over the place.

Who knows what it will even end up looking like!! I'll tell you one guy who has NO IDEA ... Philben!! lol We know our boys better than him right now!!

Coaches will just have to cut corners & innovate to make do!!

mike sherman and joe philbin...I mean can you hand pick two better offensive minds than these guys? I have all the confidence in the world they will have our offense finishing no worse than 15.
