POOLE CLEARED TO RUN
Cornerback Will Poole was cleared to do full running as he tries to return this season from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Poole was hurt during offseason workouts in May. Saban has indicated that it's unlikely Poole will play this season, but the cornerback was put on the physically unable to perform list in hopes of a return in November.

Rookie cornerback Shirdonya Mitchell also has been on the PUP list this season with the same injury. However, Mitchell sustained the injury as a college senior and has had more time to recover. Mitchell began doing ''mirror'' drills last week and could begin practicing this week if the team chooses. The team would then have 21 days from when he began practicing to activate him or put him on injured reserve for the season.

I can't wait for Poole to come back because we cannot cover anyone who has more speed than average.

Poole is not all that quick. He has average speed, but good cover skills. He positions himself well and gets his body between the receiver and the ball. Also a sure tackler.

Mitchell is supposed to be the speed guy...

Drew Rosenhaus wasnt too optimistic about poole coming back this year, no need to rush him back and cause further damage, IMO.

i agree. Mitchell will most likely be activated though...

Yeah this is like I was saying, I still feel Poole will sit the rest of the year, but Shirdonya has a genuine shot at making it back and I look forward to it.

We need Will Poole back as soon as he is ready.

He would instantly upgrade the secondary

I just hope we do not rush either player back if they are not 100% healthy. Just look at what happens (Pennington) when you rush players back from injury.

I want our secondary to be better as much as the next person, but not at the cost of possibly losing them for ANOTHER year.

I hope they don't rush Poole back. Even if he's better than Daniels or Howard on one leg, I'd rather have him starting and playing well for the next 10 years than risk further problems.

I'm quite excited about Shirdonya comming back... he's had 3 or 4 more months to rehab.

I'm also in the camp that thinks it'd be nice to get Will Pool back, but not at the expense of losing him again.

i can't wait for both guys to return. i'm not saying they'll set the world on fire, but both showed a lot of talent in college and i'm excited to see what they can do. i know a little bit about poole after his rookie season, but not in this defense.
