You know I think Florio at PFT has a great point.

The Vikings looked rudderless on offense out there today. Some will blame Randy Moss' absence, but others will rightfully blame the absence of Scott Linehan as their coordinator.

Tice is on a serious hot seat in Minnesota, and if they fail to perform this year, he's OUT of there...and they will likely give serious consideration to bringing back Scott Linehan as their head coach to get their offense going with Daunte.

Considering the job Linehan's done with us so far, if he continues to get our offense to perform like this then guess what man the guy is a legit head coaching prospect. I know that he has been talked up in the past as a head coaching candidate waiting to happen.

Just wondering who will take over and what we'll do when he leaves. Is Charlie Baggette his successor?

Let's just hope that Linehan wants to stay here and work at something that could be great. He does have one advantage...

He's young, very young so hopefully that will influence his decisions. I'm not sure if we have a successor to him, however I know Houck's successor is the assistant line coach who's quite capable...

I have a feeling it will happen sooner or later, not necessarilly to Minny but to somewhere, if he performs

We don't have any control over that, if he gets a bigtime promotion to headcoach good for him. Sounds possible, you know Tice is going to be gone when the Vikes fail to go far in the playoffs.

I think that is one of the reasons why Saban hired so many coaches. He knew Linehan (if successful) would only last 1 or 2 seasons before being offered a head coaching job. So he has young guys who are learning from him to take his place. At least that was my opinion.

I saw a little of the Minn-TB game during stops in ours and was thinking the same thing. I expected their offense to be incredible and it was clearly not at the standard of a year ago. I think the biggest problem was on their line. They usually dominate, but flat out stunk today. C-pepp didn't help matters either. Nor did the skill guys look good. Not nearly as tight as a year ago.

I know he's set it up so that we've got tons of assistants everywhere but I mean who exactly is Linehan's second in command that will be entrusted with the offense. Could be Baggette I suppose.

I think we will found out when he leaves. It is a little early to do that now.

How much are we paying scott? isn't he the highest paid O/C out there? I think scott may want a H/C gig, but I think he'll want to win a superbowl first, and it all depends on how things go this year if he feels this will be the place to get one. If he does feel this is the place I doubt he leaves before a couple years at least.

Only monkeywrench is that Scott doesn't have ties to the new ownership and it's them who will pick a successor. Honestly it doesn't get easier out there for a potential coach then to replace Meathead.

Charlie Baggett's official title is "Assistant Head Coach/Offense/Wide Receivers"

That sounds like the 2nd highest ranking among offensive coaches. I think we got him with the understanding he'd take over for Linehan. I hope he does well.

The one thing about assistant coaches being offered head coaching gigs is you can't really just refuse them like Saban did with many offers while he was in the college ranks. He was a head coach in college and his teams kept doing better all the time and he was always looking more impressive. When an assistant coach like Linehan gets offered a head coaching job he's expected to take it and if he doesn't, he gets branded as a guy who doesn't have the guts to be a head coach and he might not get another chance to be one for a few years.

The implication from PFT was that Culpepper would lobby for it, and it will seem like a kind of obvious choice if the Minnesota offense continues to struggle.

I think it is way too early for Linehan to be a head coach.
It's common knowledge that you pretty much get one shot at being a head coach in the NFL
If you fail that's it for your career as a head coach or any prospects of becoming a head coach again (in the NFL)
That's a big risk considering how young he is.
I'm sure he's aware of that

If he continues to have a crap season of course he would. It would still be up to ownership and in their eyes it might be daft to clear the coaching staff out only to bring back one of (in their eyes) "Tice's guys".
