Will Scott Linehan Defect to Minnesota Next Season as Head Coach?

The Vikings looked rudderless on offense out there today. Some will blame Randy Moss' absence, but others will rightfully blame the absence of Scott Linehan as their coordinator.

Tice is on a serious hot seat in Minnesota, and if they fail to perform this year, he's OUT of there...and they will likely give serious consideration to bringing back Scott Linehan as their head coach to get their offense going with Daunte.

Considering the job Linehan's done with us so far, if he continues to get our offense to perform like this then guess what man the guy is a legit head coaching prospect. I know that he has been talked up in the past as a head coaching candidate waiting to happen.

Just wondering who will take over and what we'll do when he leaves. Is Charlie Baggette his successor?

CK...good point, but one game does not a season make...(or something like that)...I'd hate to lose him after one year. What a pleasure it was watching the game unfold yesterday and we actually had an offensive plan for attacking Denver's D....

It would be too bad to lose him after one year...he still doesn't have a QB to work with yet...
 
Look no further than New England again to see our future. They lose an offensive and defensive coordinator in the same offseason, they promote from within, and apparently they don't miss a beat.

Then notice that those coordinators stayed in place until they established something special even though they could have gone elsewhere sooner.

Coaching, is not like playing. One play cannot end your career. I don't think the rush to get everything you can as quickly as possible is the same. The longer you stay in one place and be successful the more options come your way. Instead of taking a HC position with a franchise that isn't ideal in terms of winning tradition or owner meddling, you have doors open up with the elite franchises.

Just like Saban knew that he could turn down all those job offers for years because he knew that eventually he would find the perfect opportunity, and he knew that he had the ability to keep his stock going up every year, I think Linehan can do the same thing.

Now, not knowing his ego or his desires i can't say what he would do for sure but, I do think it would benefit him more in the long run to stay put for awhile and watch his stock soar before he sells.
 
I think Linehan will be a head coach at some point, but not Minny next year. The Vikes' new ownership, as pointed out, has no particular ties to Linehan. Moreover, the Vikes have historically hired head coaches on the cheap. Maybe this will change with Red McCombs out, but right now, I'm thinking that Linehan probably feels a little sore about being lowballed by the Vikes in contract negotiations. He's only making $100K less than Tice right now. Of course, a five year, $2M per head coaching offer would probably resolve that rift right away, but still, it bears mention.
 
If Linehan leaves you gotta wonder how many assistants will go with him. That's just business.

That's the beauty of promoting from within, they can move up the ladder just as easily by staying put as they can by leaving. And when it comes without having to move yourself and your family away from beautiful south Florida and learning from a coach like Nick Saban, I think we have a big advantage in keeping any assistants.
