First, the guys are so much bigger, stronger and faster now that there is no way you can field a starting team the entire season and have any hope at being healthy enough to win the playoffs. Therefore if you were undefeated toward the end of the season you would want to rest some guys. The season is longer and parity is such a factor that the difference between the top 12 or 15 teams in the league is negligible.

Play was certainly much dirtier in 72 than it is now. Probably so much more so that it may compensate for the difference in size and speed now. But it seems that even steroidless guys now can put on so much muscle mass that they have as much a chance in pulling something as they do getting hurt on the field.

Ultimately, I'm just not too sure if it can ever be done. If Miami doesn't win one other game but beats Indy to ruin their chance at a perfect season, I'd be content this year. No Superbowl but the chance to beat both undefeateds and ruin their hopes.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!

and i am suprised it hasn't happened alrready. the leauge wants it
in the worst way and they have been trying to hand it to tony dungy
for the past 5 years but the guy cant even pull that off!!

it will happen and i expect the colts to do it this year.

the eyes are off them. no one believes and that team isnt being
scrutinized like it has been. like the bills of the early 90's, people
have gone into a just go away mentality with them.

all the while they are 8-0 and looking strong as ever.

At some point there will be at least another regular season undefeated squad. There are a ton of bad teams in the league so it is likely that if a top caliber team gets enough of those on the schedule they could run the table. Dungy said last year (before Indy lost to the Chargers) that he would have given his guys the opportunity to run the table if they had it (he wouldn't have rested his starters).

It's the "running the table in the playoffs" part that's the problem. It's a whole different season once that begins and a team like the Colts never seems to be able to stand up to the intensity so while I can see a team going 16-0 (like the Colts), I can also see that team choking (again) in the playoffs, thereby preserving the unique place of the '72 squad in football history.

I was very impressed with the Colts win over Denver. NE, not quite as impressive. Besides Denver, New England hadn't had a real test yet and like us had one of the easier schedules in the league so far. Who on NE besides Maroney and Brady are explosive enough to garner serious attention by a defense? Everyone knows Brady will shred a zone with no pass rush (Minnesota game) but a little pressure and cover 2 or 3 is more than enough to slow that offense down significantly. On the other hand you need pressure on Manning as well as at least one of the best db's in the league to slow down that passing offense. The Pats have always been a bend don't break.

Indy is suited to handle a fast D like Denver that has a hard time pressuring their big O-line. I don't think they'd fair as well against a big D-Line with a decent 2ndary. Indy will have a hard time with Dallas and won't beat Jacksonville on the road and they may have trouble with Philly as well.

Only if the playoffs aren't locked up for the Colts by week 15 maybe we will see a undefeated. But imagine Manning starts in week 17 and gets injured on a sack by ZT? I wouldn't start my top players by then.

I don't think there will ever be another team to go all the way. They will come close but never get there. What, play Peyton and risk getting him hurt when they get guarenteed in the playoffs?? I think not. You would have to have a superior team, best roster ever, back ups should be starters to achieve this.:shakeno:

Nope

I don't beleive that will ever happen again, the teams are just too close in talent level. On any given Sunday (as the cliche goes), any team can compete with any other team. Just look at this past weekend, upsets a plenty.. So no, I really don't see it happening, definatley not impossible, but the chances are pretty low..

There will be at some point .... but so much has to go your way for it to happen ...

You have to have a very good / great QB ... you have to draft VERY well for a period of 3-4 years .... and it will have to be a team that has played together for about 3 years ... BUT MOST OF ALL -- it will have to be in a weak division !!!

INDYs window is about 2-3 more years ... unless they find a HARRISON replacement model quickly ... their pick-up of McFarland should prove to be the best move of the year ...

In the end though, it comes down to ... do you play to win the SB or go for the perfect season .... a very tough call to make in week 17 when you know the games get very hard the 2d week of the playoffs ....

:sidelol: Never happen, Zach can't get to the QB to save his life! JT is a definate possiblity, pretty much anyone on defense except Zach.. I love him, but he sucks soooo much at blitzing!

I can't figure out why they blitz Zach either. He's pretty good at reading the QB and picking off passes. I think he'd be better off covering someone of just dropping back and reading.

NOT!!! THEY HAVE TO PLAY THE FINS WEEK 17.

I can see a team going 16-0 but seriously don't believe we'll ever see a team go undefeated for an entire season. Pats came as close as anyone ever will when they won the SB in the middle of a 20 game win streak.

Chicago had the weak schedule to be able to go undefeated but we ruined that for them. the Colts can do it but will lose late in the year just like last season
