assuming that Ferotte plays as well all year as he did sunday, and we draft fairly late in the 1st round, would we still take a QB first? Gus is 34 years old so we can only count on him for a couple more years. Then there is the possiblity that he plays till he's 40 like R.Gannon..

right now i dont think anyone really cares until draft day. But to answer your question yes.

Why the hell are you thinking of the draft right now? It is week 2 and we are in first place in the divison! Give it a rest man!!!! :fire:

Why don`t we just wait until the seasons over before we even think about drafting a QB. Right now everybody should just be happy riding on the Gus Bus.

I think yes, that way if Gus plays well the rookie will have a couple years to develop with no pressure.

Just hop off the bus gus.

I am as fired up as the next guy, but Gus is no superbowl QB. He was a highlight on Sunday for sure, but, Damn right we need to draft one, we should have 7 years ago.

But like goin Deep says, it does not matter at all until January at this point.

Drew Brees/Philip Rivers
Joey Harrington
Ben Rothlisberger
Eli Manning
David Carr
Carson Palmer
JP Losman
Rex Grossman/Kyle Orton
Etc.,etc...

It usually takes years to develop even top pick qbs. These other teams are already ahead of us. We need to draft the qb of the future whether we use him next year or not.

So far the priorities include: LT (Even if McIntosh plays well I can't see the team passing up a stud LT and there are plenty in the first. Difference between an OK and stud at LT is pretty large), QB, DT. Any of those 3 positions could be used with the first pick.

Yes, Gus played well vs the Broncos, but I don't think the team can go another year without drafting a Qb.

We'll draft BPA just like last year, good teams never draft for need. That's how you get burned.

I don't think that's true at all. Teams draft BPA, at a need position.

Actually, couldn't agree more. That's how we ended up with 3 starting rookies!

Who knows, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they drafted an O-lineman, or another defensive player either(this is probably Seau's last year, and Zach can't play forever, plus we are going to need some help at DT, AND CB soon)

I agree a QB should be considered. But as Saban showed in last year draft, I think he will continue to take the best player availabe to get value for a 1rst day pick (except RB next year) over a reach at QB (or any other position). 2nd day picks will be used less for value and more for need.

I know a pattern can't be made after only one draft for Saban, but this is all we have to go on so far.

Edit: So to answer the threads question :goof: , IMO even if Frerrotte has a Gannon-like career year Saban will draft a QB if that is the best value for the pick.

I doubt we ever draft a QB in the first round, especially high in the first. Too costly to sit on the bench or even to develop for three years. You get more bang for your buck drafting someone that can come in and play right away. Choosing a first rounder that can play immediately is imperative to good salary cap management.
