Our defensive coaching staff plays a 3-4 scheme. We need a legit NT. Shaun Rogers is the only guy that makes any sense here, but how do we get him?

Parcels had a very good 4-3 his first two years in Dallas. Right now the current personnel favors the 4-3.

Additionally the best player in the draft Glen Dorsey is best as a 4-3 DT not a 3-4 NT.

The team doesnt have the personnel to run ANY defense at a high level. There's no reason why the team should stick with a 4-3 based on it fitting bad personnel better. The reason why Parcells stuck with a 4-3 in Dallas short term is because he inherited a good defense there. That's not the case here, he's inheriting a bad defense that was already running a hybrid.

The defensive coaching staff he hired from Dallas is mostly from the post 3-4 shift there, and guys who were retained to run Wade Phillip's 3-4, and whom he wanted to continue to have doing so.

Go look at George Edwards and Jim Reid's jobs on the coaching staff. Respectively, Inside and Outside linebackers. That's not a distinction that is noteworthy in a 4-3 defense.

I actually prefer the 4-3 and our personnel is more fitted to it with one major exception and that is Joey Porter who has always played in a 3-4 in the nfl and would probably be a liability in a full time 4-3. Porter gives me one more reason to hate the prior regime because the guaranteed money they gave him basically sealed Thomas's fate.

This is a really GOOD point. If I was sure of what we were doing and/or how we planned on doing it, I would not have made the post. I'm trying to collect ideas like this to sum up what players we go after to piece together a functioning 3-4 defense.

However, one other thing that kind of irked me. Granted, we're not a team thats built to win anytime soon. But New England has done such a good job with aging hof linebackers in the 3-4 defense. Why couldnt we try to work something out with Zach? I'm all about cleaning house, and I'm honestly not even that upset about moving on without him. But, its like the one connection where age and some vet leadership might be helpful.

If we dont make a move for Shaun Rogers. Who plays nose tackle for the 2008-2009 miami dolphins 3-4 defense?

Exactly, thats why I'm scratching my head everytime I read about miami playing a 3-4, we just dont really have the personnel and theres a lot of defensive talent out that would go to waste

This I agree with.

I think you have more personnel to play a 4-3 and I just heard on Sirius that this is more of a 4-3 draft as well

Idk but I hope we have a nose tackle! If we dont , than we will be last in run defense again because of holes left...literally.
