I'd rather see a form of the amoeba D with our personnel.
This makes no sense for today's NFL, the 5-2 defense is design to stop the run, now teams are running spread options and spread passing attacks! What we now call 3-4 is basically the 5-2.
i am expecting alot of db's with blitzing from them while lb's cover.
This makes no sense for today's NFL, the 5-2 defense is design to stop the run, now teams are running spread options and spread passing attacks! What we now call 3-4 is basically the 5-2. The benefit of having a 5-2 is that it adds size to your defense by replacing a linebacker with a defensive lineman. This helps in short-yardage situations where you want to stall the line of scrimmage and not give up the inside run. The disadvantage is in pass coverage most 5-2 teams will rush all 5 defensive linemen leaving only 6 pass defenders. In some circumstances a 5-2 team will drop one of the linemen, typically an end, off into coverage. But this is primarily a situational defense, and not often used in situations where downfield pass coverage is a significant concern.
The great thing about our defense is that we have the personnel to play multiple types of defenses including the 4-3, 3-4, 46, and 5-2.
Odrick - can play DT and DE
Starks - can play DE, DT, and NT in a pinch
Soliai - perfect fit for NT and can play DT
McDaniel - can play DT or DE
Wake - can play DE and OLB
Jordan - can play DE and OLB
Misi - can play DE and OLB
We have a lot of position flexibility on this team. I'd be giddy if I was the defensive coordinator.
The key to this is Jordan and Misi. Both can play DE or LB, both can muscle up, bump, impede tight ends at the line. Both can drop into coverage. Having the 2 of them gives us much versatility. I think Wheeler and Misi will be sharing time, with Wheeler playing on more obvious passing downs.
