Wilson/Clemons could compete for FS, Johnson/Jones for SS

i can see us using one of our 3rd rnd picks on a corner !, not sure who`s any value there havnt followed the college game at all last 2 years,
but a early pick at corner i can see imo

I keep hearing the safeties are supposed to be interchangable and I have a lot of trouble seeing Clemons in that roll.

We haven't had a butt kicking, playmaking safety since Brock Marion ten years ago. Before that it was Louis Oliver. Honestly since Dick Anderson and Jake Scott moved on pushing 40 years ago, we have had like 3 good years out of the Blackwood brothers, Oliver, and Marion. Y Bell was a good strong safety but couldn't catch at all and frankly was overrated in coverage. He was part of the problem with Miami's inability to cover TE's the last SEVERAL years. Too many Gene Atkins, Michael Stewart, Don Bessilieu, Bud Brown, et al years. I'm sick of it. We need an impact safety. This will probably not be the year it gets solved.

I always wanted a safety with range, and we get one in Clemons. But the kid lacks phone booth agility. I don't like his hips and short distance burst, plus he can't make a play to save his life. Reshad Jones is the opposite. Can catch the ball if he gets there. But just a dumb player. Can't figure out angles. Not fast, limited range.

We need a butt kicking leader of a safety back there. A John Lynch or an Earl Thomas just to name 2. A guy with range, who can tackle, lead, diagnose, get good angles, have a nose for the football, and good hands. I don't see it happening in 2012. Maybe 2013. I hope that's a better draft for safeties.

Marshall should be our FS with Reshad at SS. That'd be a solid secondary.

Can anyone tell me where this leaves Tyrone Culver? I was surprised to see him play competently last year - thought his ceiling was a good special teams player.

all valid...and thus why i'm sayin don't sleep on brandon taylor at free safety with one of those two high 3rd rounders...i'm more worried about free than strong...reshad jones can handle strong and tyrell johnson is good camp comp and can maybe win the job...free a whole lot of questions

Me too. Free Safety has been my concern all along (since 08 or longer) and I also think one of those back to back thirds is the perfect spot to take a safety. However if the roll of FS/SS in the defense is virtually a mirror image depending on match ups, schemes etc...it scares me that Jones struggled with FS and now you are moving him to a position that has higher responsibly in terms of reads and run support but also has the same responsibilities in coverage.

Unless I am misinterpreting what Miami is shooting for with this hybrid 4 quarter defense they want to field. I'm just an arm chair forumist lol who likes the Dolphins so I hope the staff has a plan at Saftey. Who knows Hoops maybe we just don't see the master plan for what it is.

if he returns probably similar to what it was last year...nickle dime safety...he's solid but not great at anything...that said i think coyle might get the most out of our secondary...he surely did out of cincis pretty meh bunch

I've been a big supporter of the Clemons/Jones Safety combo for awhile now. I also think Jimmy Wilson would make a really good FS as well. I think this would be a good solution to our safety situation.

Every time i redo my mock, i keep leaving trumain johnson out. I just gotta funny feeling like he will be on our roster on April 27. Johnson and Wilson back together again?

I think trumaine is a supreme talent but may not have a true position. Wilson produced solid last year but is no where near as talented as johnson but its isnt always about talent

We need someone back there that creates turnovers. Only R. Jones has shown he can be a playmaker. Wilson may also help in that department and maybe Marshall if he gets moved back there. Otherwise we need to draft a FS if no one gets moved to S position. the draft will tell us what the plan is.

Clemons may have a little more range than most think. Leaving him off the field last season was a mistake.
One big hiccup when developing a Safety.
