I think he should be very worried! :D
Something – or someone – has gotten lost in all this talk about the rapid midseason rise of rookie safety Chris Clemons.

That would be incumbent free safety Gibril Wilson.

True, Clemons started ahead of Wilson last Sunday in the Meadowlands. Then again, Nate Jones opened at strong safety ahead of Yeremiah Bell, and nobody is talking about Bell being demoted or being in danger of losing his job.

"It's just different packages," Wilson says. "That's one package that we had when me and YB are out. That's something that was just sprinkled in. The D-line does it. It's just a certain package. It was just (based on) what the Jets were doing and that's just it."

Wilson and Bell came back in as a combo on the third play of the game, sat out the first play of the Jets' next series, then returned for the bulk of the first half. So does Wilson care about the perception that he is in some sort of danger of losing his spot?

"I'm not worried about that," Wilson says. "Not the least worried about that."

How would he describe his status heading into this week's huge game at New England?

"Ain't nothing changed," he says. "Ain't nothing changed. It's just like any of the guys, Joey (Porter) or ( Jason Taylor). If they would have come out in a certain formation, depending on what that formation is, those guys would have been out."

Still, there's no denying there has been some sort of shift to the younger, faster rookie fifth-rounder from Clemson. Or at least a lengthy audition, which is newsworthy considering Wilson signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract (with $8 million guaranteed) this offseason.

Of the 81 defensive snaps on Sunday, Clemons took 23 of them in just his second game on the active game-day roster. But that meant Wilson still was out there for 58 snaps, or 72 percent of the free safety load.

Wilson's starting job is on the line if he doesn't step up. He's been garbage all season long.

how much gauranteed money did we hand him?

what i really want to know is if we cut this guy in the offseason, how much will we still owe him?

I'd love it if Clemons could start and we get some up and comming midlevel FA or draft someone in round 4-6, maybe a ballhawk, bighitting FS, not the speed specialist Clemons is as the backup.. we always can improve our special teams, even though they are doing a much better job this year.

Much in the same way Wilford wasn't worried about guys like Bess, Camarillo, and even Derek Hagan surpassing him on the depth chart. We all know what happened there. Wilson needs to be worried. One good game doesn't make up for all the mistakes made in the previous ones. He can't cover, he can't tackle, and if continues to be unable to do the fundamental things that are required of his position it's going to go a guy that CAN do it.

It really would not surprise me if Clemons finished the season as the starting FS. Gibril Wilson sucks.

When Bell and Wilson have been used properly, they've played pretty well. I think that Bell and Wilson should alternate at SS - with Clemons at FS - or play as part of a 3-Safety package (Clemons, Bell, Wilson).

I like a 3 man rotation at safety. It's a matter of figuring out what each player does well and how to use him. The problem is pass coverage - if Culver and Clemons can cover, they'll get more and more playing time on passing downs. But Wilson and Bell are good blitzers and excellent run stoppers.

i'll be glad to see bell and wilson out of here. if you aint fighting for a pro bowl spot then you gots to go.

He ****ing well should be. Any player that isn't hungry does start long in this league, never mind on the Fins.

our 5th rounder is not starting because he's that good. its because our coverage has been that bad. clemons has got a long way to go. and where the hell is JA? has he done anything other than cover kicks this season. he's not THAT bad. i mean, he cant even get in for a few plays a game?

i thought gibril did a nice job last week, along with clemmons. i think YB needs to step up a little more he IS the safety leadership for our defense...

While Gibril has been disappointing with very basic stuff such as tackling, im hardly appointing Clemons the savior. If Wilson can improve then im up for him starting, if Clemons can overtake then i have no problem with that(especially with a softer schedule ahead as far as opposing offenses).

That being said, Gibril will always have a very special place with me for the Hit Of The Year against "Sanchize" that had the boy fleeing to the sidelines immediately afterwards.

All I know is I see Clemons entering the TV screen more than Wilson ever had, aside from tackling someone 20 yards downfield and the recent blitzes.

I think Clemons will be starting at some point anyways. More speed, better tackler and is hungrier. He is also fresh, which plays into the rotation scheme we deploy. We actually rotate all postions lately. LB's as well to keep guys fresh.

This is the matchup game of all games for us because they will be running 4-5 Wr all day long. So rotating DB's is good and dont be surprised to see 6 DB's out that at one time.

Lawrence Maroney aint getting nothing unless its some gadget play.

chris clemons looks like the black troy polamalu out there with all that hair, i think he actually has more hair then troy p

when your safteys cant tackle= wilson. small to average plays turn in to big ones.if clemons is even close to wilson.wilson is done for just for the reason of price and tackling.thats not counting youth, and maybe he is just going to be better.
