I think he should be very worried! :D
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...on-clemons-20091106,0,2638752.story?track=rssSomething or someone has gotten lost in all this talk about the rapid midseason rise of rookie safety Chris Clemons.
That would be incumbent free safety Gibril Wilson.
True, Clemons started ahead of Wilson last Sunday in the Meadowlands. Then again, Nate Jones opened at strong safety ahead of Yeremiah Bell, and nobody is talking about Bell being demoted or being in danger of losing his job.
"It's just different packages," Wilson says. "That's one package that we had when me and YB are out. That's something that was just sprinkled in. The D-line does it. It's just a certain package. It was just (based on) what the Jets were doing and that's just it."
Wilson and Bell came back in as a combo on the third play of the game, sat out the first play of the Jets' next series, then returned for the bulk of the first half. So does Wilson care about the perception that he is in some sort of danger of losing his spot?
"I'm not worried about that," Wilson says. "Not the least worried about that."
How would he describe his status heading into this week's huge game at New England?
"Ain't nothing changed," he says. "Ain't nothing changed. It's just like any of the guys, Joey (Porter) or ( Jason Taylor). If they would have come out in a certain formation, depending on what that formation is, those guys would have been out."
Still, there's no denying there has been some sort of shift to the younger, faster rookie fifth-rounder from Clemson. Or at least a lengthy audition, which is newsworthy considering Wilson signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract (with $8 million guaranteed) this offseason.
Of the 81 defensive snaps on Sunday, Clemons took 23 of them in just his second game on the active game-day roster. But that meant Wilson still was out there for 58 snaps, or 72 percent of the free safety load.
