PITTSBURGH — Adam Gase stood in the Miami Dolphins locker room after his team was drilled by the Pittsburgh Steelers in an NFL playoff game on Sunday.“Remember this feeling,” Gase told his players. “Get back to this spot and try to make some noise.”

Gase was so disappointed by what had occurred, quickly falling behind 14-0, then 20-3 before succumbing to a stronger opponent 30-12, that he said he’ll need more time to process the entire season. We don’t need to wait that long. The Miami Dolphins’ 2016 season was a resounding success.

Even though Miami failed to win its first playoff game in 15 seasons.Even though the Dolphins allowed too many sacks and didn’t have enough. Even though Miami couldn’t create a run game and couldn’t stop the run.Even though Miami was handled easily in its last two games of the season.

Miami’s season was a success because answers to the two most important preseason questions asked by any franchise, at the start of any season, were answered.Yes, Adam Gase was the right choice as Miami Dolphins head coach.Yes, Ryan Tannehill can be a Top 10-Top 14 NFL quarterback, which will be good enough.

Good enough for what? To win NFL playoff games.

The Dolphins are poised for more future failures as long as Tannenbaum is running the show. His job was to upgrade and/or fill as many holes as possible during the off-season and draft, yet on draft day he was more concerned with trading up for unneeded positions while giving away current and future picks. Those much-needed picks were extremely important to a team that needs rebuilding. And, let's not forget that Tannenbaum went into the season with Dallas Thomas (and Turner) still on the roster and starting. There is NO WAY that an upgrade was not available in free agency or the draft.

Safe to say Tannenbaum would depart before Gase.

We do have a solid foundation to build upon and it's been a long time coming.

Tannebaum gets a ton of **** and deservingly so, but he's not nearly as bad as Ireland. You can't possibly have fixed as many holes this team had in one offseason. If he goes and addresses linebacker with significant attention and strengthens the line by way of guard and depth, resigns some key fa's like stills, kiko (hopefully for olb), branch, sims and extend guys like Landry. It's in line with the majority of what most want addressed.

He got Tunsil (no brainer I know) and Howard who looks the part early, and say what you will but that eagles trade worked out pretty well. That's four holes filled even with the trade for depth at wr.

Let's be optimistic the defense gets addressed with some padding of the oline. So I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt to fill these spots after addressing four holes we couldn't fill for seemingly a decade.

In Gase I trust and I think he will be convincing in where he needs the talent help. In my opinion we had a strong offseason and it showed on the field and in the coaching and in the culture. If we can string a few of those together we will be a very strong organization once again.

Tannebaum is not popular but not to be blamed for todays loss. There's only so many injuries a team can overcome no matter how good the GM is. How many of the final 8 are without:

Starting QB
Pro Bowl Center
Starting TE
Pro Bowl SS
#1 CB (debatable I know)
Starting FS
Starting SLB
Gimpy WLB
MLB with club on his hand
LT with healing busted wrist
LG who stated he was 60% 3 weeks ago (wouldn't be surprised if Tunsil has shoulder surgery)

Just too much to overcome.

I fully expect him to do it again this draft. That's his M.O. Trade away future picks for a player that won't be as good as he thinks he is.

I'm not a Tannenbaum fan but give me a ****in break... there's only so much you can do in an off season via FA and draft. It takes multiple years. Stop using Tannenbaum as an excuse. This team has had a lot of holes and depth issues for a while. It's going to take a couple years. Relax.

And that's why it would make perfect sense to trade away 3 picks for a WR you don't need. Tannenbaum is not an excuse...just an extension of an issue that has plagued this team for more than a decade now. Personnel acquisition.

You knew it would irritate Gase. Unlike Past HC's the phins have had, he will not settle and will use as something to learn from and build on.

I'm nowhere near as disappointed as I was after WC Weekend in 2009. I highly doubt it will be another 8 yrs until the next post season appearance.

Agree. Tannenbaum has a track record of being a weasel & an idiot. If it comes down to a power struggle; I can only hope Ross has the wisdom to chose wisely (Gase).

With Tannenbaum we made the Playoffs. Stop already, it's been a long time since this team sniffed anything close to the Playoffs. On top of that we swept the hated Bills and Jets, that to me is much better than I expected when we were sitting at 1-4. You have to give MT some credit for improved record this season. I get that he's an ex-Jet executive that was part of the Sanchez disaster but he's done some good things here. He was part of the team that brought Gace here so let out a little line on the guy. I don't love him by a long shot but let's be fair.

We made the playoffs with Jeff Ireland too.

Let's just see what t-dumb does this off season. It's he going to actually get us some guards? How about some LB's that can actually stay healthy? He counted on guys that we can not count on to stay healthy. I'm not saying every move he made was bad but he made plenty of dumb moves. I'm willing to give him this coming off season to see what he does thought.

Ozzy rules!!
