Ricky is gone next year, this is a devastating blow to our running game as Ronnie showed flashes but didn't really show the ability to carry the load and dominate the game as of yet. We need another big playmaker on offense who can lead the team and score us some points, to me that man is Drew Brees. If Drew Brees escapes us we need to trade up for Jay Cutler. Unfortunately, this may mean we have to trade up as high as #6 or 7 of the Raiders, and who knows maybe even #4 of the Jets. Cutler is going to be a great QB in this league, pull out all the stops I say... That is if we can't get Brees.

Panic and start tradeing, sounds like a Wanny/Spielman move.

Everyone needs to relax. Ronnie will be fine to carry the load. This is no time to panic, unlike when he abruptly retired.

Ronnie is going to be fine.

And we needed a new quarterback regardless of whether or not Ricky was here.

This doesn't change anything except cost us a draft pick we didn't have yet.

How would we ever know this if he split carries most of the year. With Ricky gone, Ronnie will now show if he can carry the load. And chances are the answer is yes. I dont know about you but he showed enough to me that he is a big physical player who fights for every yard and can break the big one in the running and passing game.

cutler will be there at 16...
I agree, contrary to what many are saying, the real experts are talking as if Cutler is DROPPING. Jeff Fisher is screaming SMOKESCREEN. No way Fisher is picking him at, what is it, #3? :rolleyes2

I don't think this has much of a bearing except for the fact we could've gotten a trade up or draft pick from Ricky. Ronnie can be a full-time back and QB SHOULD be addressed.

Our first for Lamar Gordon, we need a "proven" back ASAP.

i CANT believe people do not think Ronnie can handle the load. Ummm was i the only one who saw him RUN OVER people in the KC game?

If Ricky is gone, now we'll need a good #2 back. It's important to have a 2nd RB who is good enough to carry the load for several games if he has to. It's definitely not Sammy Morris. But, this is a lot different than when Ricky retired and left us high and dry without any RB.

Ronnie showed plenty. He's more than ready.

Even still, how long was it until Larry Johnson became the greatest thing since sliced bread??

I agree we need another #2 back. An upgrade to Morris or Minor.

Ronnie showed enough that quite a few people thought he was the best RB to come out of the draft since LT (including Bill Belichick, a guy who knows a little bit about football). Too say that this is a "devastating blow to our running game " is complete BS.

EDIT: How about a stat comparison? Ronnie had more carries and identical YPC.
Ronnie Brown 207 907 4.4 4
Ricky Williams 168 743 4.4 6
