Peyton had Irsay as his owner, who is both a drunk and a clown. I doubt he's going to make his decision based on who the owner or GM is. He will make decisions on coaching staff and talent. And in the end if he does sign here, he will probably have more power than Ireland as far as personnel goes.

So in your opinion its a smart decision to try to hire another coach while you still have one or do you think its more likely that you can hire a good coach if you actually have an opening. So please explain the error in my input or the lack of truth in it. Yea thats right you cannot . Do you ever actually have an opinion on anything? Probably not mean how dare any one have an opinion. The thread talked about their record on going after coaches and you cannot admit I have a valid point im just hating just to hate. Hmm where are all the negative philben comments from me? Its obvious we made a mistake not going all in to sign Harbaugh and do it in a professional manner but of course we can do no wrong in your eyes.
Ross gets a lot of unfair criticism that stems from people who fail to look at the entire picture. Ross pulled the plug on Orton, Harbaugh was not comfortable with Ireland and his family didn't want to move and he didnt give into Fishers demands. I am the first to criticize Ross when he is a bonehead but these instances of not landing Harbaugh or Fisher are absurd.

Everyone keeps saying Miami, Arizona, Washington, Seattle, Houston, and the New York Jets. No one is talking about teams like Dallas, Tennessee, Chicago or Denver. I really think Dallas could be a surprise team. Replacing his horseshoe with a star on the side of his helmet is possible and ditching Romo for picks is very likely.

In the very likely possibility that Peyton doesn't pick Miami, these two will probably get about 90% of the blame even if they were to do everything right. It's Peyton's decision to make.

So I will ask you wouldnt it have been a better business decision to try to hire a coach when you have an actual opening. Worst case scenario you dont hire Harbaugh but many coaches would not accept a job when you still have a guy in place, not eveybody is a scumbag like Parcells. Hell even if you dont criticize Ross for failing to hire Harbaugh you have to criticize him for not still going ahead and firing Sparano last year. We could have hired Philben last year, instead of just throwing away another season.

I wholeheartedly agree on Ross chasing Harbaugh while Sparano was the coach. I was very critical of him but I look at it as his inexperience in being an NFL owner as well as not getting very sound advice from Ireland and Peterson. The criticism he is getting in here is his inability to land Harbaugh which is incorrect.

Thanks for giving an answer unlike another poster who basically has nothing to say on any subject. I do agree it had to do with lack of experience to a degree but the same principle applies in all businesses. i think he showed a lack of integrity for his version of his conversation with Harbaugh and just plain bad business to do that with a coach hired. Ross to me deserves criticism for that and also some criticism of allowing Fisher to hold up his head coach search. We had that slight pause that could have easily have cost us Philben as a coach. I think the tragedy of philben actually worked in our favor and we got lucky,
The reason I bring up inexperience and exclude the principles of other businesses is the NFL is very public and scrutinized from every direction possible. Ross may very well pulled this in his real estate dealings and not really considered the ramifications of doing it in the publics eye.
