With Taylor’s departure imminent, role of team icon is up for grabs

We had a thread about this already. Someone beat them to the punch (or they scour the fan sites for ideas...).

You do realize that this thread links to a column that goes into detail and discusses various candidates for the role of team icon?

The point is to read the column, then chime in.

The other thread is cool and all but it's just a couple of sentences asking for opinions. Not exactly the same thing.

Who cares? Who wants to be the hero one day and be hated the next? Used to be guys that laid it down for this franchise were revered...Now, they get accused of being gay, or what have you. I was on the tearing down of icons side with Marino when he was at the end of his career....I see now how wrong I was. It began then. I see the same arguments..."Dolphins fan, not a Marino fan", etc...What garbage. Icons are icons, no matter where thier last years get spent.

As a fan base we need to get our collective heads out of our fifth point of contact.

If Jason Taylor would have told us up front he didn't want to be part of this team I feel Parcells would have spent the extra money and got us a very good player in Calvin Pace and the problem would have been solved, but since Taylor mislead us we missed that opportunity. Telling us in advance would have allowed us to make a smooth transition to another player and the void wouldn't be so bad but waiting to the last minute leaves a gaping hole. The only reason for Taylor to handle things the way he did was to intentionally screw the Miami Dolphins and leave us without a experienced replacement so that him leaving would look much more devastating and his ego could inflate more.

There were a few posts on that thread that were relatively detailed on this topic if you read through the whole thing. I am not sure you will get more than that.

Oh, and please take no offense, I read the post you linked to and thought much of it was covered in the thread I suggested already. I read before I posted my first response, so I guess that was me chiming in.

I understand how you'd feel that way, but, I don't believe JT intentionally mislead anyone. He could've been more clear but, then, he'd've taken the wrath of this board just earlier. When it comes to player love, most on this board were ready to toss away ZT if he went to a team in the AFC East.

No sweat. Just wanted to point out that there was a column that was the basis of this thread.

Oh, and the idea that Jason Taylor misled the front office is ludicrous. It's Parcells and co. that drop the bomb on Jason. Not the other way around.

As posted in many threads...you're speculating. Perhaps the front office told him they were going to trade him, but couldn't find a team wanting to pay an outrageous price. The FO could have caused this problem.

ultimately, this is much importantant to JT than to the team
16 million + repution vs. with or w/o him 2008 is going nowhere
