I was taking a look back at past drafts and the only word to describe it is sad...98 1st rd John Avery..total bust! Surtain in the 2nd the best and only worthwhile pick..although this draft brought mixon and bromell they were just above average.99 NO 1st! James jones in the 2nd BUST! this draft brought Konrad who has always been just decent...nothing else.00 NO 1st again..and listen to this list todd wade, ben kelly, deon dyer (not bad for a blocker)arturo freeman. ernest grant, jeff harris talk about sad!!01finally we have a first rounder!and we pick JAMAR FLETCHER?! omg this draft did produce chris chambers and travis minor .. but nothing else...02 NO 1st or 2nd! Randy was a steal everything else was a bust!03 No 1st! this draft was a complete and total failure the saddest draft day in dolphin history in my opinion...04 well lets just say the jury is out on this group..vernon carey in the first was a stretch and he could still pan out...with poole being hurt last year the jury is out on him too...bua and pope are iffy and as is pape ... but we may have found a sleeper in Hadnot he is a scrappy guy.05 finally a quality first round pick albeit the 2nd over all..lol Ronnie brown! yes !!! we are finallly "getting it"...lol.. Matt roth in the second he could really show up this year he is intense and i love that!Channing crowder in the 3rd oh hec I am in heaven now this kid is a PLAYER!Daniels,Alabi, and Vickerson round out this group and it was the best draft we have had in ten years! I think you see the difference,and hopefully this will be a trend for a few years ...with drafts like that,Saban will have us in the mix of the best teams for years to come. I have heard alot of talk about trading our picks for players but i really believe that Saban intends to build this team from the draft with a few savy veterans and free agent signings.For the first time in a long time this is why i believe we will compete for championships again,and look forward to the draft instead of wondering how badly the front office can screw it up...Good job Nick

Chambers, McMike those two were drafted later.
So what is the deal with Vern Carey? Did he play much this past year? I never get to see games and they usually don't talk much about the OL in the boxscore or on TV.

At one point, before we got Ricky, we didn't have a first round pick on offense period. One of the best things about Saban, in the short term, is coming from a winning college program he recruited some of the best players in the country and that will give him a leg up on talent evaluation for two or three years. Similar to Jimmy Johnson when he started with the Cowboys.

I thought Carey was supposed to be a beast, but I never hear anything about him.
At least our line was solid this year, and young.
