“One thing I think you’ve got to feel bullish about right now: I don’t know if the Miami Dolphins have to score a whole lot of points with the way this defense is playing. The defensive front has been outstanding. Paul Soliai was just consuming two blockers at a time in the Tampa Bay game. You know how much success the Bucs have had in the past sending LeGarrette Blount into the middle of a defense, and instead the guy had nowhere to run in Tampa Bay. I mean, he was stymied. I thought the Dolphins did a great job there, so, look, if this offense can put up 18, 20 points a game, to be honest with you, they’re probably a winning-type team. I think that defense can be that good.”

There have been 8 teams in the last 10 years that could have won 9-10 games scoring 18-20 points per game (and they would have just barely made it): '09 Jets, '08 Steelers, '06 Ravens, '05 Bears, '02 Bucs, '01 Steelers, '01 Eagles, '01 Bears.

Since the illegal contact/defensive holding rules were changed before the '04 season, there have only been 4 teams that could have been successful with that low of an offensive output.

The Dolphins defense is going to be that good this year? Really? Silly article/analysis.

Not if you keep losing the turnover battle. If you're an 18 to 20 ppg team and you keep losing the turnover battle, you're not very likely to win 9 games.

And last I checked the Dolphins' defenders still aren't even making the most of their turnover opportunities in preseason. Yet, the offense is turning the ball over as much as ever.

Youre looking at 6, 7 wins TOPS scoring 18-20 ppg with a negative turnover margin

i only saw a couple turnovers by the starting offense so i must be missing something????

Yeah, the offense wasn't terrible, but the defense isn't gonna be making anything happen in the turnover game. Pretty much every turnover we got in the preseason didn't come from our starting D, which despite being the best players on our roster are also worse at creating turnovers than the guys behind them.
