This is something that has been bothering me with the final OTAs...

I mean when Eric Green got beat deep all weekend long, I was just wondering about safety help. Bell and Wilson were MIA (missing in action)

Hopefully, I do hope it was a mental mistake !!!

Valid point, but it's hard to say since no one has seen the play. Might be a good question for Omar or someone else who was there.

may not have been any mistake at all by the safeties....we have no idea what the defensive call was on those plays and what their responsibilities were on those plays.

Could have been on those plays where Wilford was motioning as a tight end (though he's not 1st team)? According to Omar that caused significant confusion and breakdown in the D quite a bit.

Generally when you don't hear about a player its a good thing. That means he wasn't screwing up essentially so he didn't stick out. The only thing I read about Wilson was actually positive. Sporano was saying how well he was calling out the adjustments in the Secondary and had great communication. Overall I think we can expect good/great play from Bell for sure, and Wilson will be solid at worst.

the concern with the safeties is more like do we have 2 safeties that play almost exactly alike and not exactly stellar in coverage

It's June. Worry in September if this is still going on.

I have absolutely no worries about our secondary.. The Dolphins have some excellent positional coaches and Bowles our secondary coach is no different. This staff knows what they're doing and proper coaching is HUGE in this league..... Probably more important than any other sport as football is the ultimate team game.

Bowles is considered one of the very best secondary coaches in the business.. he is very well respected around the league for his knowledge and his coaching ability back there...

Look what he did for the 30 year old Andre Goodman.. Goodman was a career backup type who no one knew about, Goodman was a relative unknown... Bowles worked with him and got him a $25 Million contract after his improvement last season.. Goodman raved about Bowles all season for the improvements in his game as a 30 year old player (or was close to that age)... Same goes for Renaldo Hill getting a nice contract that no one here would think was nearly worth that at the end of the 2007 season...

Those Goodman and Hill contracts in 2007 would have been the joke of the century on this board.. Until you enter Todd Bowles, and give him a year with his tutelage.

And all of a sudden Yeremiah Bell has his best season of his career as soon as he works with Bowles.

With the added talent in the secondary like Wilson (who is clearly more talented and stronger than Hill), Vontae Davis, Sean Smith, and Chris Clemons (who was the fastest safety in the draft), along with the guys we already had like Y Bell, W Allen, T Culver etc, we're going to be good back there.

I have no worries with all that added talent back there because Bowles knows what he is doing. He is a fantastic secondary coach and will coach these guys up right.. Did you hear what Sean Smith said about Bowles the other day ?

Then you add the improved pass rush as Merling looks like a beast and is playing at a much higher level compared to this time last year (as Sparano said), and add the additions of Cam Wake, Jason Taylor etc will improve the pass rush for the secondary as this coaching staff knows how to utilize every talent on the roster and put them in the proper alignments/positions to succeed.

You made me drool a bit ;)

I can't wait for the season to start. Time to prove everyone wrong. New Orleans who? New England who? Indianapolis who?

No worries with this secondary. Todd Bowles, with all the added talent this offseason, is going to make them into a very good unit.

Mark my words.....

The guy is an excellent secondary coach, again one of the very best in the business... There is a good reason why 3 of our 4 starting secondary people had career years last season- and two of them were 30 yrs old (and ALL FOUR of them got BIG contracts this offseason)... Because Bowles is fantastic at what he does....

Now add all the talent to that secondary this offseason, and Bowles is going to work some serious magic with these extremely talented young players.

Again, mark my words..

If I were to tell you in 2007 that Goodman, Allen, Bell and Hill would have gotten the contracts they got this offseason, you would have said I was absolutely insane... Enter one year with Todd Bowles and you can see there was nothing insane about it..

Mark my words, we will be fine back there... A lot of people will be shocked with how good the secondary will be next year (and in the coming years), but I won't be...

I agree with you 100%.....I said at the end of the season Bowles was my position coach of the yr for our team......what he did with what he had to work with was amazing......I will not worry about our safties until the pads come on......our safties are physical guys who will show there true abilities once the pads come on.

Remember, they're primarily running Quarters. No safety help.
