Recently we have a had very good luck in the 2nd round; 2014-Jarvis 2015-Jordan Phillips 2016-Xavien Howard 2017-R. McMillian, but the 10 years prior we have been horrendous in round 2. Starting in 2003 with Eddie Moore and ending in 2013 with Jamar Taylor the names are horrifying. I think the worst 2nd round pick in the span was Johnathan Martin. His insanity cost us a 2nd round pick and an all pro guard in Incognito. Bully gate was the most embarrassing off the field controversy in franchise history. Pat White, Daniel Thomas, John Beck, and Samson Satelle were not much better. Who is the biggest 2nd round bust?

Samson Satelle was not bad.
John Beck and Pat White were ugly picks! That is an example of why you do not force picks just to have a backup QB. But overall terrible 2nd round selections over that span.

I liked the John Beck pick quite a bit, thought he was a heck of a college QB at BYU and had great pro potential. His problems seemed to start when Parcells tried to alter his delivery/stop him from tapping the ball with his left hand. His confidence seemed to erode and then there was that ugly game he had, wasn't the same after. Parcells should have left him alone, his delivery was fine.

I have to say Pat White. Some other bad choices but we remember them I think for who I didn't pick.

I remember reading some mocks that had us taking Pat White 2nd round for the wildcat. I thought there was no way our FO would be dumb enough to spend a 2nd rounder for a player only to be used in a gimmick formation we only used a handful of times per game.

Maybe he wasn't the worst pick talent wise, I don't know. But the reasoning behind the pick is why I say it's Pat White.

Jamar Taylor was a total dud. In fact, Jeff Ireland was consistently bad in the 2nd round eg - Pat White, Jonathan Martin, Daniel Thomas, etc. Although there was the year he traded a 2nd round pick to move up to take Dion Jordan.
I think that Chris Grier is consistently better at drafting with more sensible selections.

Yeah, Eddie Moore was just Wannstedt polishing the fenders.

Well to be fair, Eddie Blake in 1992 never played a game. But in recent memory it's probably Pat White.

Eddie Moore was just another of many busts picked during the Wanny years. One of the reasons why the team that Jimmy built completely fell apart so fast. Instead of finding a QB and improving the offense Wanny picked busts like Eddie Moore and Jamar Fletcher. He sold the farm for Ricky but stuck with Jay Fiedler while only bringing in guys like Ray Lucas and Brian Griese. How can we forget trading a 2nd round pick for the great AJ Feeley. Saban's biggest failure was trading a 2nd round pick for Culpepper while passing on Drew Brees. He threw the blame on the medical staff but whatever. Saban's drafts also had their fair share of busts.

Samson Satele turned into a decent player. John Beck was a complete bust. Daniel Thomas should have been a 6th round pick. He was at best a 3rd string RB in the NFL. Pat White didn't belong in the NFL, the fact that he was picked in the 2nd round is a testament on how awful Parcells/Ireland were at drafting during their times with the Dolphins. Jonathan Martin never had the mental toughness to play in the NFL. Whoever did his evaluation completely failed at their job and hopefully no longer work for the team. Jamar Taylor was another guy that was over-drafted. Honorable mention goes to Koa Misi. He was a decent player when healthy but he was hardly ever healthy.

Patrick Surtain and Sam Madison in back to back years, 2nd rounders.
