In the spirit of having very little to talk about to pass this anxious, agonizing few days before kickoff, and in response to the Best Dolphins Game Ever Thread...what would you guys say was the WORST/MOST PAINFUL loss....

Here is my list:

1-Loss to Jags, no need to mention the score
2-That Monday Night Game...Ugh
3-Pete Stoyano-***** missed FG against the Chargers
4-Blowing 11-pt lead against NE to miss Playoffs
5-Loss in Marino's one and only SB...this one grew more agonizing as time passed.

Only two really come out in my mind.

#1 The Meltdown at the Meadowlands. I was a senior in high school... and it was a Monday night game. I stayed up agonizing watching that catastrophe. It was such a huge blow to watch the seats the score had emptied in the 3rd quarter slowly fill back up. By the time OT started, the stadium was full again. We totally blew it. Complete ineptitude. It was a sign of things to come in the future....

#2 Marino should have come back for one more year after that loss to the Jags. That's probably my saddest moment in all of football, that our hero had to leave in that fashion. Man, we've been having a bad run of coaching/front office for 10 years... I'm glad to have the trifecta.

I think maybe those two should be flipped. I'm 25 and younger than most of you guys...so I didn't watch Marino with a head full of football knowledge regarding the ins and outs of play calling, league politics, or any of other things (records, qb mechanics) I know today that made him great.

What I do know is that through out my whole life when the Phins were on TV I saw Marino with a childs' eyes. To me he was 'more than a man, less than a god'. Kinda like Superman. Today I respect him, I am a huge fan, and remember watching him fondly. However, its not the way it was when I was a 12 year old kid and I went to bed after watching him play I would dream about the game...

Sorry if I got kind of emotional there, but I really miss the guy.

I wasn't around when it happened, but I would imagine that watching your team lose the Super Bowl has to be the most painful thing to watch as a fan. The worst losses i've seen were the 1992 AFC championship (even though I wasn't really a fan at the time), the Monday Night Meltdown, the loss to the Jags in Marino's last game, and the choke job against the Pats in 2002.

How about getting shut out by the raiders and blow out by Baltimore

Boy, you must really be obsessive to wanna think about this. I think im going to cry.

Monday Night against the Jets
Patriots/Vikings games in 2002
Chargers playoff game (Stoyo's missed kick)
Jags 62-7
The countless agonizing playoff losses under JJ/Wanny

I've seen countless wins and losses, but these are the ones that jump immediately to mind.

A couple of seasons ago, we beat NE 21-0 then lost 21-0 to buffalo. I was in the stands that day, it was a really rough walk back. Thanks JOey Harrington!

Definately the loss to the Jags in the Playoffs, that game started all this nonsense we have had to endure in the 2k era.
Chubbs

There are the more obvious ones, but the Patriots in 2003 was especialy painfull for me. What was it, three missed field goals in overtime?

Easy one for me: 1985 AFC title game. Home loss to Patriots to rob the world of a Miami-Chicago showdown in the Super Bowl.

I clearly remember the Pats loss a couple of years ago that knocked us out of the playoffs. The Jamar Fletcher phantom pass interference call might have been one of the worst calls I've ever seen. I remember walking out of my house in 30 degree weather with nothing but shorts and a t-shirt on...no shoes. I walked a good 3 blocks before I realized that I had nothing on. I just remember thinking to myself that this is the strongest team we've had in recent years, and we still couldn't get over the hump.

Little did I know it would hurt worse in a few weeks. After watching 5 Dolphins players star in the Pro Bowl, our team imploded the next year under Dumbstedt.

I just wanted to add that the Jags Playoff loss was even worse than people think...

For one, it cemented Marino's retirement

Also, A guy named Jay Fiedler decided to look pretty good in that game in mop-up time, it was like a damn Trojan Horse technique by the Jags....tricky gypsies.

Finally, The Wanny era ensued...Ill

That was 2006. We are the only team in NFL history to blow out a team and then get blown out the following week
