What a scary thought. You are saying that a LB that has been in the league 5 yrs and never had over 50 tackles in a season, never recorded a interception, never had a 5 sack season, and averages 2 passes defended per year...... wait for it.......IS OUR BEST LBer ??

What do people see in him?? All I hear is how he sets a good edge, but every time someone runs to his side his is out of position, misses the tackle and allows the runner to gain chunk yardage. Personally I think he has some naked pictures of someone, or he wouldn't be on the team. He hasn't made a game changing play since he got to town. Please remind me of a play that he made that any other starter in the league couldn't make with his eyes closed. :rolleyes2:

K. Misi had 34 tackles and 3 passes defensed (career high) last year, and ZERO INTs
Wheeler had 83 tackles and 7 passes defensed last year
Ellerbe had 70 tackles and 5 passes defensed last year and 2 picks, which is something Misi has yet to do ONCE.
Misi is below average in run support, but makes up for it by being freaking HORRIBLE is coverage, and nearly as bad in rushing the QB. The one thing Koa is good at is not getting injured, but then again it really isn't that hard to do when you are never around the play.
He's great at the POA. Ellerbe and Wheeler were among the worst LBs in the league last year (bottom 5). Misi was average. Just by the fact that Ellerbe and Wheeler were so terrible Misi is our best. That speaks to the state of our LB corps. He's very dependable, and he'd be scooped up immediately in free agency.

As a backup ONLY !!!! There isn't a team in the NFL that would "SCOOP HIM UP" as a starter. Not a NFL team in the league where he would be an upgrade over what they have.

PLEASE show me a play, or remind me of a play that he has made that had an impact on a game. People didn't like Chris Clemons because he didn't make enough impact plays, but he made a lot more than Koa.

Why does he have to make plays? He's an average player. Not a playmaker. He does his job, and he does alright. Our other LBs are worse which was my main statement.

Worst linebackers, worst o-line, no running game and yet we were still a .500 ball club.

Only way to go is up baby!

Stats say he was our worst LB, and by quite a wide margin. The other two LBs have at least been solid contributors on other teams when used correctly, which is something that can't be said about Koa. Koa has been in several different systems and has always been the weakest link on the defense. Ireland kept him around because he drafted him, but it is time for an upgrade. He has the least potential of any of our LBs. He's slow, has terrible instincts, and can't change directions.

LBs are not DTs, their contribution to the team should show up in the stat sheet, and if the stats are not there after enough time, he needs to be replaced. Koa will be a target on a decent defense. He is an average backup, nothing more.

No they don't. You don't know what you're talking about. PFF and my eyes say that Misi was a better player last season and that's because Ellerbe and Wheeler were noticeably bad. I'll trust those over your basic statistics. He's our Sam and does a better job in that role than Ellerbe and Wheeler in theirs. Wheeler has always been garbage. Misi is at least decent. There's a reason why Wheeler was getting pulled and Misi saw the same amount of run.

 yes, heaven forbid we let facts get in the way of "your eyes".

You're using tackles as your primary statistic. Just because they're measurable doesn't mean they're a valuable tool when evaluating. I'm using my eyes that are corroborated by observations that others have had. You're arguing that wins as a pitcher is the most important statistic, essentially. There is so much more to playing LB than what shows up on the stat sheet (especially tackles) ESPECIALLY as a Sam. Misi was our best LB against the run last year. Wheeler was god awful (among the worst OLBs in the league) against the run. Ellerbe was god awful (among the worst MLBs in the league) against the run as well. Wheeler was also god awful in coverage. If there's a LB to hate on, it's Wheeler. You're barking up the wrong tree with Misi.

We will have to agree to disagree. This defense will never be special with Misi as a starter. He has to be replaced as a starter. Ellerbe can play at a high level as can Wheeler. They both played in a system that didn't fit their talents, but Misi just doesn't have the talent to start at the NFL level.

You're just wrong on a fundamental level. It's okay though. Part of an antiquated way of thinking that is quickly (thankfully) being phased out. Wheeler has been terrible the majority of his career. Ellerbe was a backup with 7 starts in 2012 where he played good but not great. Misi has been average his entire career. I'll pick Misi over the other two any day of the week as would most GMs around the league. My biggest peeve is that we released Dansby and Burnett who both played better than Wheeler and Ellerbe the year before and this year, so they've had an uphill battle with me to begin with.

Thank you. Wheeler is trash

Our LBs just didn't communicate at ALL last year. Wheeler was put in positions where he never knew what he was doing. He tried to make plays and often did, but was also often out of position. I blame much of Wheelers problems on coaching. Wheeler is a play maker who needs to be in simple system. As has already been proven Misi is jus not a starter at this level. He will never have the ability to effect the out come of a game. The jury is still out on Wheeler. Wheeler makes lots of mistakes but they are mistakes out of aggression, while trying to be a play maker. I will take that over Misi every day of the week.

But as I said before it is ok to disagree, that is what these boards are for. There are others who think like you who try to avoid the obvious in favor of fantasy.

misis the best of a sorry lot for what he's asked to do...the solb is the strength of this run defense at least...solid player...solid enough where you don't look to replace him...but a 2 down lb
