The reason I say the worst game plan is because we've seen enough now to see what does work for us.

To me it's mind boggling how you see game after game where Tanny's legs help the offense, esp if you get him going early. Game after game we see those double shifts and various motions confuse the opponents defense and have them reveal coverages. Game after game we see Tanny roll out and pass effectively (because he's so good on the designed roll out left or right). When we do all 3 we score 37 on San Diego. So naturally against the very kind of defense that gives our online trouble we abandon all of that.

I'm not saying we should have run the exact same game plan as we did against SD. I'm saying there are many creative ways to do what really works for our offense (not to mention confusing/slowing down defenses), and the coaches did none of them. IMO the offensive game plan and whoever put it together are responsible for this loss. This game should not have been close. It's as bad as when we do those 3 things I listed successfully, even in a game like SD, and then get inside the red zone (and more glaringly in goal to go) and abandon them completely to try to become a power running team.

Just when you think they kinda have it figured out. Sad and kinda disgusting IMO.

We were playing the best DLine in football with a banged up offensive line. If anything, I absolutely LOVED the way Lazor adjusted to a quicker passing game after those first 2 drives . . . knowing that RT wouldn't have the time he has had against those mediocre DLines he has feasted on the past few weeks.

If this was last year, we lose this game 30-3, because MIke Sherman would of kept watching Tannehill get decked to the ground with 7 step go go drops.

This game gave me confidence that Ryan Tannehill can make plays in the face of interior pressure, something I pegged as arguably his biggest weakness. Watching the kid grow has been real fun this season.

That was funny. :)

I agree that the adjustment to the quick passing game was wise and timely, but I think the OP makes some excellent points.

Tannehill has struggled to find rhythm when Miami doesn't scheme to use his legs. He only started playing well against GB after Lazor implemented the read/option, and against CHI and SD, Lazor used his legs early. Tannehill, though, has been excellent when his legs are a factor - about as good as you can hope for. He also makes an excellent point about moving the pocket and using roll outs. Those plays are designed for protections more than anything. Miami's WR's were finding space against Detroit's secondary, so I don't think cutting the field in half would have been an issue, and moving Tannehill would have resulted in fewer negative plays as well as more positive gains.

He called a few read/options in the 2nd half, and I'd have to watch it again, but it looked like Tannehill made the right read on each play by handing it off, and the runs were successful. You have to scheme Tannehill's legs into the game plan at this point. The evidence is too overwhelming (to me anyway) that he needs it and that he's really good when he gets it.

More often than not, a few exceptions, Lazor's initial attacks are weak. He adjusts well, yet slow, and at what cost to the defense's fatigue - particularly late in the 4th like today?

Great to have a poster who knows better than Lazor. What is your coaching history?

Let me preface this by sayin that I like lazor but this tired reasoning is still lazy and ridiculous. None of us here have nfl gm experience so by your logic we had no right to bash ireland even though most here would of made better decisions then him every step of the way

It appeared to me that the lions were hitting Tannehill on the read option. Even if he handed it off. That may have helped force us out of it, since he was getting pummeled enough as is.

Agreed. However, if ya want to take a shot at someone, make a point on what he did wrong, not just generic BS.

What was up with the first to drives. First play I think it was. Dallas thomas one on one vs suh what was the game plan? Then grimes one on one deep vs Johnson. Did we not do our homework.

I agree with you that going to the quicker passing game helped. Why not do the other things that help in other games too, at least once in a while.

If you roll out you roll away from the pressure and you make those def linemen chase you. And I'm not addressing the adjustments. I'm talking about the game plan from the jump. And thanks for bringing up the quick passing, again why wasn't that the game plan from the start ? It's worked in other games.

Also I don't want to make it sound like we have to do the exact same thing game to game. There are other ways to get Tanny's legs in the game. And anyone scoffing at how Tanny plays when we do use them compared to when we don't, well i just wonder what team you've been watching.

I just don't get not doing what works enough to keep the dline not knowing what is coming next and maybe wear them out some for the 4th quarter.

Also I agree it's been fun watching Tanny develop. It's more fun to watch for me when we use his athleticism and don't try to make him a pure pocket passer. Maybe he will be that someday, just to me for us to win this year his legs/athleticism are what puts us over the top on running an effective offense now.

Lastly this isn't, for me, about last year.

Would you like to engage in a flamewar troll? Should I challenge your credibility? Or is this not a forum, thus free to express our viewpoints on a coach?

Besides, what is your counterargument to my opinion on Lazor, brightguy?

Some of yall need a diaper change - whiny today.

Yep. I've said time and time again that anyone that wants to stop the read option will do that. Detroit's D-line is good enough to dedicate the outside rusher to decking Tannehill no matter what...the rest of the guys will handle the running back if he keeps it.

Well lets hear your brilliant offensive ideas, Mr. Coordinator. Because you dont roll out against the DL that Detroit has, and the way they were shooting gaps and stunting.
