so you admit you were wrong on Gibson then? :)

Well if mr franchise had some accuracy over 20 yards then maybe Wallace would be lighting it up. How many bombs have been overthrown under thrown or thrown out of bounds? I'd say atleast 4-5

how often is Wallace open? once a game?

You can't compare manning to Tanny. If you look what Wallace did in Pitt, that was a result of Big Ben scrambling and extending the play. Not because he had all day to throw.

I am not comparing them. Just stating that you do not need all the time on a deep ball. What I said is Manning does not sit in the pocket for a long time before he releases his deep ball. This goes for every QB in the league. If you get the ball out in 2 seconds and the ball is in the air for two seconds that is enough time for a NFL WR to get 40 yards down field. This idea that we need a lot of time from the line to throw deep is overblown. If the ball comes out around 2 to 2.5 seconds there is not much time needed for Wallace to get down field. If we see no help over Wallace there should be no issue of getting the ball thrown in that direction.

So basically... everyone except for Brent Grimes, Dion Jordan, and Brandon Gibson?

Worst off season moves.....

1. Not trading for Brandon Albert when he could have been had for a second rounder.
2. Moving up to get Dion Jordan when the team had much larger needs to be addressed. (players taken after 12....Richardson, Eifert, Long, Hayden, Star)
3. Drafting Dallas Thomas when Markus Wheaton and Brian Schwenke were still available (or even taking Larry Warford at the end of the second instead of Jamar Taylor)
4. Signing Tyson Clabo (all could have been avoided with the trade for BA).
5. Mike Wallace, not a number 1 WR and is not a good fit for the type of offense the Phins fun.
6. Reshad Jones extension...jumped the gun on that one.
7. Both LB moves....I know they thought they were getting more "dynamic" players only to downgrade the position.
8. Starks franchise tag...expensive especially with the emergence of Odrick over the last few seasons, should have let him walk.
9. Not resigning Bush....he's beyond dynamic and a great leader...he actually wanted to stay in Miami.
10. Hartline....too much money for a guy with a limited skills set....he's not a true number 2, but is only really effective on the outside...falls when hit with a still breeze.

To address the OP's thread title - Wallace was not THE worst offseason move we made this season. Worst value? Definitely. But worst signing has to be Phillip Wheeler who has been BAD and is getting paid... Wallace hasn't been BAD, he just hasn't been great and definitely does not deserve the contract he got.

Being that we have a timing and precision based offense and how RT and Hartline have an obvious connection it would've been much smarter IMHO to have brought in another precise route runner in Jennings. Not only would we spent half as much money we would have seen results.

I know Jennings is a slightly faster Hartline and we needed a vertical threat to the offense, we would have added precise pass catchers on both sides of the ball, throw in the Gibson compliment and we would have had more success than we've had. We still would be a team that doesn't break big chunk plays but we'd be more efficient in the intermediate passing game allowing us to sustain drives.

And Wheeler is terrible. We should have signed OLB Howard this offseason on a minimum contract for the same missed tackle performance and increase to team speed. Give me another Misi at OLB who may not be fast but is very physical at POA and rarely misses tackles than the fast Wheeler who is weak at POA and never seems to bring anyone down on his own. Burnett would have been so much better for us, and we may have won a few more games than we have with Wheeler.

I'm not sure why people on this board say the Jones signing was so bad!

It's what everyone was begging for, as to not get beat up ala Brian Hartline. If we would've signed Hartline when he had his mysterious calf injury we would have got him for around 14-18 mil instead we let him play out the season and he took us for 31 mil. Everyone said priority 1 was to lock up the best young safety in the league, everyone including me!

Jones took the payday and appears to be not taking his profession as serious as he did last year. At some point pride will factor in, he either has it or he doesn't. If he doesn't have pride let him go.

Our capologist has put us in good position year in and year out as of late where we can get out of bad contracts. If we hadn't signed Jones this past offseason and he was still hungry like he was last year we would've been handcuffed in negotiations to pay him 10-15 mil more per year. Just think how much worse it would've been.

Second contracts are the biggest gambles in NFL. You never know what your going to get!

Several times. Much better than I thought he'd be.

Wallace was brought here to get open deep and stretch the defense . i've seen him in position for several long TD throws but he was under thrown. It happened again last game. Dude was never a possession type guy. Not the best hands and just average routes. Why did we expect him to change ?

Maybe he was overpaid but we got what was advertised just haven't been able to get the ball to him deep. Not advocating a change but with Matt Moore slinging it he'd probably have 4 or 5 TD's by now.

Wheeler is terrible and would be my pick.

I'm not falling for that. Jones doesn't have enough ability to play himself into a legit contract like that, "hungry" or not. It was logical he'd level off this season, particularly given the higher caliber of quarterbacks we were facing early in the season. Many of us emphasized that theme in the thread when he signed the extension, while others were praising Ireland as if he stole something.

The draft as a whole is the worst move at this stage. It could turn out to be remarkably bad, given the slots we held on draft eve. Gillislee is a run of the mill back. There was a reason he barely played at Florida until his senior year. Ireland doesn't seem to grasp basics like that. Jenkins doesn't look like he'll ever be more than a situational guy, and not necessarily an effective one. I was not impressed with Dallas Thomas in college and he looked even worse in preseason. He seemed more overmatched than simply not ready or playing out of place. Why are we drafting a lineman from a Derrick Dooley offense, when Dooley was pure finesse and seldom ran the ball? And as someone posted in the thread devoted to Thomas, he doesn't exactly interview well or come across as someone to have great confidence in. Ireland specializes in making sure we draft at least 2 or 3 dummies every year.

One of the two defensive backs has to step up and save the draft. Davis scares me as someone who will makes plays but give up more than he makes. I liked Taylor but didn't know anything about his medical issue. At least he's physical and competitive and came from a good program.

Jordan was moved around a little bit against the Chargers. We tried him on the left side early in the game on at least one play. Not at end but as a movement blitzer. The coaches are sampling to see if he can demonstrate any threat of variety. Right now he's slow off the mark and can't do much if his outside loop is nullified. The good news is he gets away with the one dimensional style more than he has a right to, based on sheer ability and length.

Rookies who are picked that high are supposed to demonstrate flashes of athletic arrogance, where it looks like they could pop the football with one hand and hoist the stadium with the other. Jordan hasn't done anything like that. Even his best plays have come from very routine outside rushes. Vernon looks considerably more intense out there.

Wallace is limited because the play action and slower developing plays have been useless with all oline issues. Rapesburger buying time in the pocket created separation allowing Wallace to get wide open while in Pitt.
IMHO, Wallace is a good receiver when he is free from and has separation from the DB. If he is covered well, he is easily disrupted and the DB will win the battle.
We over paid for this type of talent. We should continue looking for another deep threat in FA or draft and cut our losses when we find him. Until then, stick with Wallace. He are better with him, then without him.

I thought Ellerbee would be good replacement for Burnett, I never thought Wheeler could replace Dansby. It was a cost cutting salary cap move.
It was vintage Ireland. Take a position with good to great players and weaken it with unknown or mediocre players.
IMHO, we need a new set of LB's. These two guys are not run stoppers.

Jones is a decent safety. He is fat and happy now that he got paid. Hopefully next year he can strive to be a better player.
