There are many serious and knowledgeable posters on this site so let me ask some for opinions...
1. Have we done enough right now, excluding the potential of the draft, to at least keep up with the Bills and Jets?
2. Is our game plan changing?
3. Does anyone think we have a serious threat on offense?
I see the Bills with a pretty good dline and they have added Rex as coach..they have added playmakers on offense...I see the Jets making similar moves and bringing back a potentially good secondary and adding a defensive minded head coach.
I still firmly believe the game is won in the trenches and love the suh move but havent seen the oline improvements I had hoped for....so I'm not sold we have a threatening running game that will invariably keep the defenses guessing....without a threat and I mean someone the defense HAS to gameplan for what am I missing that tells us we will be able to score...
1. in the rd zone
2. consistently enough to increase our ppg to the 28-32 range
3. with big play potential

Not trying to get beat up here just looking for some insight/vision
Thanks

1. No, but I think they will bring on more competition for guard through a low price vet or a later round draft pick (I doubt they go online with their first 2 picks. The defense still has many missing pieces that need to be address, most notable Mike linebacker and CB. Both could be addressed through the draft with a hope and a prayer that Davis and Taylor emerge from camp competent.

2. The look to be getting younger on offense, not necessarily a game plan, but a change in direction.

3. Yes, both the Jets still lack a QB and having Tannehill will give the Dolphins a chance to sweep both. The moves on offense are a wash right now...losing Hartline was addition by subtraction and Wallace and Still are very similar. The o-line remains a constant work in progress that never seems to be finish. I look at Jordan Cameron as the "x-factor" of the off-season moves...I feel he is a better and more explosive player then Clay and gives the team a legit Red Zone Threat. Defense adds Suh which is great, but until the find another CB and a Mike, they are still going to struggle.

I don't think we've done nearly enough to beat the Pats or the Bills Defense. We have a draft coming up and we need to be the winners. I'm not going to say we need a number1 receiver per say in this offense but we need a big receiver to add to this offense.
We can all look at it on paper even after the draft but unless we go out and beat the Jets and Bills in sweeps and at least take one from the Pats I won't believe it until it's done. The Miami teams for the last 15 have been let downs. It's almost as if we've been cursed and I really don't believe in curses but it's been a strange 15 years.

1.
Bills - I would argue that they didn't necessarily improve. They had slowly acquired personnel for 4-3 over years and now plan to flip it to a 3-4 on the fly? Even with Defensive mastermind Ryan in house there are going to be growing pains here?
Offensively? Harvin, McCoy and Clay certainly add a playmaking element but without a functional Qb and a below average oline is this really an offense that scares us?
That said I anticipate a split.
Jets - Improved significantly. This defense is frightening now. They are going all in for respectability. I still think we split with them. Still no Qb.
Pats - Worsened significantly for now(defensively). This may actually end up being a dip year for them.

I anticipate a lot of parity in the AFCEAST kind of like the AFC North last year. It would be nice if the Bills and Jets start pulling their weight. We have held serve against the Pats the last two season, but they were swept last year.

2. Unlikely
3. Stills and Cameron are excellent options. A lot hinges on Camerons health though.
I think the failure to develop more big plays stems from the Oline. We need to be able to play outside a box.

Almost verbatim what I was going to say. Excellent breakdown.

Being in the AFC east has blown the last decade and a half. Personally I am really scared of Buffalo, their moves have been major game changers at key offensive positions that needed upgrading(including HC). They were a tough match up last year, and anyone following this offseason has seen a clear and massive improvement, I wouldn't be surprised if we got swept this upcoming year. Thankfully we have some more FA time to plug holes, and the draft can be a huge addition with the right GMs calling the picks.

The pats are the pats, we have called for a down year for them frequently...only to still lose and watch them get deep into the playoffs year after year...EVEN more so this past year!! Everyone was convinced they were done...then they spit in our face and won a Superbowl (cheating or not, still got it all...the bastards.)

The Jets have improved vastly as well, it'll be a tough year in the East...with 6 of 16 coming from it, looks like a division winner or bust for the playoffs.

Sometimes I wish we had been moved into the AFC south instead of the Colts, Lol. But I guess our Big Buffalo/Jets rivalries wouldn't be the same if we changed history.

I'll say it, we need a beast #1 receiver

We got Jordan Cameron instead...matches Tanny's skills better. A better O line would both open the run and give better deep play progression. I'm not concerned with the WRs now...we need Guards, and we need Depth. I'm sure the first team front 5 will hold their own, but there is NOONE behind them once one goes down...they won't all stay healthy a full 16.

If we don't pick up another linemen, expect at least 2 picks on the line in the draft.

I don't think we're better offensively as of now. However, we can still improve via the draft. The jests and Jill's have improved but we have the 2nd best QB in our division and Suh will improve the defense overall. Our biggest issue is we have no playmakers on offense. Hopefully we address that in the first two rounds and sign or trade for a vet guard. We have some young guys who need to step up, as we need cheap/good talent. It's Tannenbaum's team now, God bless his vision
