Would Pull a Ditka?

Depends. How much do we like Barkley, and can we draft him where we're sitting?

In principle: Yes, I absolutely would.

I'm not opposed to the idea. Ditka did it for Ricky and it didn't take them too terribly long to recover. If Luck is all that they say he is than it's a no-brainer IMO.

"The whole draft" sounds like a lot, but really it's simply a 2nd through 7th picks. We'd be swaping 1st's.

And let me tell you, that WILL NOT BE ENOUGH. NO team will give up the top pick (Andrew Luck) to simply gain a 2nd thru 7th.
We'd need to give up the 2013 1st round pick AS WELL. And maybe an elite player (Marshall or Wake).

So, yes, I'd give up our 2nd - 7th picks in a heartbeat. But that's unrealistic and a joke. No team would accept so LITTLE.

I agree the 2013 1st round may be needed, but I think your underestimating how important the 2-7 picks are. Granted when Ditka traded his draft it was for the 5th overall pick not the 1st. I think a team would be willing to trade the 1st pick for an entire draft in a heartbeat.

The things to consider here are what team lands in the number 1 spot and where we are picking. If the Rams are 1st and we are 3rd it is not that much of a stretch. Unlike most years I think there will be an active bidding war for the 1st overall pick and anyone looking to trade into that spot is going to have to OVERPAY.

To bad that move and a 3-13 record got Ditka,GM Kuharich and most
of the coaching staff fired...then a 45-51 record over the next 6 years

Not much of a recovery

In 1989 the Cowboys traded Herschel to the Vikings for three first round picks, three second round picks, one third round pick, and one sixth round pick which the Cowboys used to help build their dynasty in the 1990s.

Who won that trade for their respective team the ONE player or all the draft picks?

You cant trade away such a bounty for 1 player
Get the best QB available at #2 or #3 or wherever we end up
then start filling in the holes(which are many on this team)

Just because we need a franchise QB doesn't mean it has to be Luck

Don't start with the we drafted bad in the past excuse because
it's not relevant if a whole new regime takes over.
Judge them by what they do not the people who have been running the asylum the past 4 years

It's a tricky one, because there are a few good QB prospects behind Luck, I just can't see this or any new FO (which surely will happen) trading the entire draft class for one player.

But the flipside is that Luck is totally worth that kind of a trade. It might take more than just this year's class, I know I would see more value in 1 and 2 this year plus 1 and 2 next year than 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 this, for example.

What we would also have to look, is which teams are so QB needy that they would pull a trade like this off, Denver could, SF because of Harbaugh could, Seattle maybe, the Jests could be a huge possibility and it's in their nature should they finally give up on Sanchez, Dallas too could too if their patience with the chocker that is Romo runs out. Philly could be the surprising team in the mix, if they can't or won't work a deal out with Vick. The rest of the either have a great QB or have invested too much in their current QB's to be interested in this kind of a trade.

Who wants to go back and look at the last ten years worth of Dolphins drafts and tell me which one is not worth giving up for the possibility of a franchise QB. In recent memory we have had the #2 pick (Ronnie Brown) and #1 pick (Jake Long) and here we are again considering a shot at a #1 pick. What did all those draft picks get us? Another shot at being the worst team in the league.

A good draft probably yields two starters (in time) and maybe some good quality depth. It's really a no brainer to swap first rounders and give up a 2nd 3rd and 4th rounder. Late round picks are worth virtually nothing. Hell most teams cannot even fit two drafts worth of players, 14 or 15 rookies, on a football team.

Let's change the question around-if you are the Fins at number one, what would it take in draft picks to get you to give up that pick?

Hell no. He would get killed if you stick him on a team with nothing but what the Dolphins have right now.

How many Super Bowls have they won since then? How many have we?

They recovered just fine thanks.
