I'm just tossing this out there. I don't know what it would cost to get Bill Cowher, but the possibility exists (judging from news reports) that a situation could arise in which we could get Bill Cowher for our first. Would this be reasonable to you?

It wouldn't be to me. I could justify giving up a second rounder, or some combination of other picks. But the 9th overall pick could be used on a player who could play for us for a long time if we draft well. I'm just not sure if that's too high a price to pay. I want to win now too, but I don't want to do like the Bucs did, give up the first and win and then be awful. Your thoughts?

Only if he plays quarterback too

I don't think its a trade as much as its compensation for taking someone under contract. I am not sure they are first rounders or not, depends on the person. I do know the Bucs gave up a bunch of picks (a first rounder included) to get Gruden from Oakland.

huh?? unless im crazy nobody in the NFL trades draft picks for coaches...
Well you must be crazy then.

If you take a head coach under contract usually there is some sort of compensation. Tampa Bay did it with the Raiders over Gruden I believe, and most recently KC paid the jets something.

If the person under contract is actually being promoted, then no compensation is involved.

Cowher isnt that great of a coach IMO. Personally i feel the nfl 'gave' him that super bowl win if you know what i mean...

Does anyone know if Cowher is the GM in Pittsburgh? I guess the Dolphins could say he was head coach and give him a figurehead spot as "Head of Football Operations" or something like that. I'm not so sure I'd want another Head Coach/GM again. I watched a really interesting piece on the Ravens a few years ago where Ozzie Newsome made the best case for why no head coach should be a GM. It was the middle of the season and he said, "go ask any Head Coach ten of the top prospects in college, if they're doing a good job of being head coach, they can't." Which I thought made an interesting point. I'm sure it's possible, but I'd rather have two people manning GM and Head Coach than one.

Still, does anyone know what Cowher's official position with Pittsburgh is? I wasn't wild about him at first, but if we could get him, his familiarity with our staff would mean less turnover with the coaches and that would be a better atmosphere for the players. Plus I just want to see that jawline trolling our sidelines.

Obviously I'm just trying to get other people's opinions. Tallahassee and Clearwater aren't exactly filled with Dolphins fans to talk to.
