Hypothetical question. If you agree that Gus is a one or two year solution would you consider trading him to a desperate Ravens team that is built to win now but is stuck with Wright and an injured Boller for a QB? This is only a hypothetical and we would have to get something of value for him so the players I would be interested in that would solve some of our long term concerns are
1) Center - Jason Brown
2) Offensive Tackle - Adam Terry
3) Free Safety - Will Demps and a draft pick
2) 2nd rounder in next year's draft

I realize we wouldn't consider this prior to this week's game and if we somehow beat the Panthers this week this idea would be nonsensical but if we were to lose and had the bye week to prepare Sage for week 5, would you consider any of these scenarios

Who is going to QB here? Do you really have that much faith in Sage, and AJ blows. I don't want AJ waering headphones, neverthless throwing the ball. This is Week 2, we are 1-1. Let's see what we have this season.

Well it just seems that the Ravens could be very desperate for a veteran QB. We might be able to take advantage of their desperation and get something of value from them. Unless you think we are going to the playoffs this year. If you do than this trade scenario wouldnt make any sense.

None of those player options help us. Baltimore's oline is probably worse than ours.

We can't trade Gus this year at all. Gus is the only QB that i feel safe with at starting for us. Maybe next year we could trade him.

If they would give us a 2nd rounder, but they won't. I doubt they'd be interested in Feeley though.

No that just doesn't make sense. It would be a new system to learn and he would not be as successful or productive as he is in the dolphins system. We would only hurt ourselves further.

Problems with these types of trades which many don't consider before throwing names out.....

Salary cap ramifications to our team and the other team which may be in the deal

This isn't baseball, making a trade in the middle of a season even if you could, does not mean that the trade will bear any benefits for that season. Football is a strategic game, one that rely's on many different systems and it takes awhile for a player to learn a system enough to be competent in it.

Chemistry between players is also very important in football where it isn't that big a deal in baseball where you see so many in season trades. Just as the example above, it takes time for players to develop chemistry with each other to the point where they can really be effective.
You mention bringing in OL which is a position that is most important for chemistry besides a QB and his WR.

NFL trades just aren't as easy as many think and bringing a player in midseason just isn't something NFL teams often do.

Gus is not tradeable...the Ravens aren't in a panic mode yet. Gus is second rate at best and Saban obviously doesn't want to use Sage or AJ...that would be giving up even more on the season (although, starting Gus is giving up IMO)...

Feeley wouldnt be right for the Ravens. They are a win now team and might be willing to pay up for a vet like Gus. The center Brown is a rookie. He has Pro Bowl potential and was the highest rated center coming out of the draft. It would help us big time for next year. Terry is being groomed to be their left tackle

Terry is a second rounder. Brown is a fourth rounder. We have the salary cap space to make the trade. This trade isnt meant to benfit us this year but next. The concept is to try to speed up the rebuilding process and the best way to do that is when other teams get into a panic mode. You may be right about the Ravens not panicking yet but after next week, if Wright has another poor outing they just might. This team has the potential to go to the SuperBowl if they can get their offensive line jelling and decent production from their QB position

Unless the coaches had a hard-on for Terry or Brown I would say no to those. You don't target guys like that unless you targeted them prior to the draft because then the danger is you justify their value based on where they were drafted and not how much you wanted them.

All the people saying this great big no to trading Gus, you have to understand it is not likely, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't do it if the Ravens came calling and said hey we'll give you a 2nd round pick in 2006. Would they do that in a million years? Heck no. I'm just saying, the price tag may be high, but everyone's got a price tag...

Agreed there CK. It would certainly be nice to see us on the good end of some lopsided trades for a change. Who knows the football season tends to have some interesting twists and turns

I am wondering though if the Dolphins should not have kept Lamar Gordon on the roster and tried more earnestly to trade him to Philly. The Eagles grabbed him immediately, and he's eating playing time from Brian Westbrook. In other words, they really really like him.
