If we keep losing, would the Fins consider trading away all their vet players with value? After seeing what the Marlins accomplished this year I wouldn't be against it. Next years draft would be awesome with a **** load of 4th and 5th picks maybe even a 2nd or couple 3rd's... Plus some cap room...Not talking about our young guys. Just a thought.

I actually wouldn't have a problem with it at all. It would be better than the same ol same ol for the Dolphins. I think they need to do something like that to get better in the long run.

I honestly think we should have done this when Saban first came to town. It seemed possible after last years finish that we might be able to continue winning without rebuilding, but I am beginning to think it needs to be done.

A fire sale might not provide the additional cap room that you speak of. Any bonus that these players have been given, that is currently being spread (charged against the cap) evenly throught the length of the contract, would be accelerated and charged against the current (next years) cap.

This shoulda been done in Wannys 3rd year as Hc to prepare for a New coach staff and draft system things havent changed which only points the finger to 1 person Wayne H....HE has to go.

i don't think there is any other way to do it. i thought this was going to happen after 04 but all saban did was make the team older. we are in a deep quandry right now, way too old and not an abundance of draft picks. the problem is who can we trade? jt and zach are old, other than that who can we trade??

I would totally have a problem with it because it is not needed, Saban just has to fine a few players here and there and make it work. Zach stil have a few years left and JT does aswell. Chambers is like 27 or 28, Booker 29 or so, Randy in his mid 20's as is welker, u gonna sell them too. Get real.

You just dont dump on your franchise players. Ya it worked for the marlins but they also dont h ave no fan base.

It's what Saban SHOULD have done the minute he got here. We need to clean house.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. In theory this would work. Communism works, in theory.

You can not just dump all of your players and think that this will clear up cap room. By trading players, that team still incurs their salary and takes the cap hit. As a poster already said, the salary cap hit is accelerated. So not only would we have less cap room, we would not have as many good players. We would dump all of our good players, even though they are old, and not be able to sign any more players. Now, a distinction is made on what players that would be traded and how much they would count against our cap, but I believe that trading veteran players hurt you even more. The NFLPA put this measure in place for this exact purpose. They did not want teams just dumping veterans and not being penalized for it.

The Marlins were able to do this because they have no salary cap.

Think before you type.

A team with no veteran leadership is a team destined for failure. Youth is a good thing, but it must always be tempered with experience. While I think there needs to be some serious cleansing in Miami, I would never advocate a complete makeover even if there were no salary cap.

One more thing to consider: What makes you think that all the draft picks we bring in are going to be worth anything anyway? If we hit on 50% of our picks, that would be a great average, but that means 50% of the team would still suck.

Ok, but the only problem with this is you wouldn't get crap for any of these players. Kevin Carter is old, and really hasn't been too productive this year, Keith Traylor is OLD and has been contemplating retirement for a while now, Jeno James is an average interior lineman who plays on maybe the worst O-line in the NFL, You might be able to get a mid round pick for Booker, but that's about it.

You can't get rid of the whole team.
You still have to field a team for the games.
The original poster is ignoring the fact that the NFL isn't like baseball where every team has rosters full of players in the minors waiting for a chance to play.

Secondly, I don't know how much if anything we could get for some of the vets we have.

In addition as another poster pointed out, getting rid of every vet isn't an option as some salaries will still count against the cap and some will accelerate.

A complete rebuild in the NFL is a much longer process.
I think were in trouble with the lack of quality youth we have but not enough to just get rid of everyone.
