Would you take a 2nd this year or 1st next year for Mike Pouncey?

Well you put me in my place I guess my math is bad on 5yrs 42 million.
8.4 million a year is what I thought it was.

not a problem.. but then again whether the Browns would have paid him $10mil next year or the Jags and Browns $18mm over the next 2 years, still who'd have thought a quality center would be valued at even close to that valuation so it shouldn't be surprising if a first round center who's play lived up to his draft order should at the least command more than that original mid first round pick.

Because of the timing of the void after two years of Mack's deal, the Jaguars (or the Browns) won't be able to place the franchise tag on him after 2015. The Browns placed the transition tag on Mack this year, which guaranteed him more than $10 million on a one-year deal. It also gave him the ability to shop his wares around the league, which resulted in this offer sheet with Jacksonville.

The Browns were willing to pay Mack more than $10 million in 2014. They should be plenty comfortable paying Mack $18 million over two years.
The deal will include $18 million over the first two years, with a player option after 2015, according to Rapoport. The contract has a player option after the first two years of the deal.

Beyond idiocy to pay that much for any center, but If people want to model themselves after the Browns and Jags whatever.
This is the problem with having bad drafts , having to overpay in free agency.
The Browns gambled that somebody would sign Mack and set his value and now its 8.5 million.
No other team made effort to sign Mack because they knew they would be overpaying.
Mack is damn good center but he is not a top 10 lineman in the league.
The Browns always have to overpay to keep good talent.
We are under no pressure to pay Pouncey that type of money.
We have him for two more years, We can come to a much fairer contract if we act early.
If he is set on 10 million a year then we should be looking to trade him at some point.
We did the same thing as the Browns when we way overpaid Solai when we franchised him.
I kind of noticed how Solai never made that kind of money untagged.
Pouncey is a good player and Im fine with rewarding him although I would keep guaranteed money as low as possible and definitely put character clauses in his contract.

Nobody pays $10mil for a center either

until both Jacksonville and Cleveland demonstrated that they will!

So Cleveland and Jacksonville are your barometer for success and a good front office?

Keep and extend him. He's one of the best centers in the league. Bully-gate was an aberration for him, nothing to worry about.

I would keep him and build a great o-line around him. Before I give him an extention I'd sit him down and make sure the questionable behavior is in the past.

Evveryone says something like "make sure he will stop the off the field issues"
The problem is, how do we "make him stop"?

Pouncey for a first rounder- Maybe. I would sure as hell consider it. Especially to a crappy team with a potential top 10 pick (just guessing, I know there is parity blah blah)

Aberration??
More like the norm! See his relationship w Aaron Hernandez, weapons trafficking (allegedly), drug house etc
Trust me this guys definitely has a lot of thuggish activities in the past that haven't stuck to him. Is it behind him?? I hope so!
But, to say the bullying crap was an aberration is Ludacris. BTW, IMO it want bullying and whatever Pouncey did in regards to Martin was regular locker room crap and nothing compared to some of his activities

The OP actually through his sig, advocates the resigning players like Clabo and McKinney.

So this topic is par for the course, mediocre old talent onry on the offensive line.

When was he found guilty of these "thuggish" activities?

I think there is concern and we have really no reason to rush to a contract. He hasn't been caught up in anything yet so I wouldn't just assume all that is true.
Its funny though people will criticize Jackson for his friends and not the same for Pouncey who is probably pretty damn tight with a murderer so much that he felt he should be freed.
I think the concerns should be reflected in less guarantee and we should not be paying him a Mack salary when he has two years left on deal.

Really? When was OJ found guilty of hacking a womans head near off? Off football topic, I am so GD tired of hearing people say wheres the proof or he's not guilty. I'm all for having to prove guilt, and I'd rather let a guilty person free rather than jail an innocent one, but anyone who tries to convince me that Pouncey's a great dude needs his own head examined. Found guilty? No. Enough evidence to not want him on my team at 8 mil a year with his punk attitude? Plenty. So if I can get a 1st and a 3rd for him, take it.

When was he found guilty of these "thuggish" activities?
