Would you take a 2nd this year or 1st next year for Mike Pouncey?

Were the Ravens right to immediately take Ray Lewis back after he pleaded to misdemeanor obstruction of justice to save his own obviously complicit ass and after attempting to shelter the murderers per the following scenario:

June 1, 2000 — Day 7: Police officers testify that Lewis’s original police statement on Jan. 31 was riddled with lies. Lewis at first denied knowing the names of the people in his limo. He then later identified some of the people in the car, including Oakley (who he called “A.J. Johnson,” an alias). He also originally denied knowing somebody’s head had been cut but later said Oakley “had his head busted.” Lewis refused to sign the statement, saying he had to leave for the Pro Bowl in Hawaii and would answer questions later.

June 2, 2000 — Day 8: Detective Ken Allen, who was at the scene of the crime, describes what he found next to Baker’s and Lollar’s bodies — bottles, articles of clothing, and a two-inch knife with no blood on it.

June 5, 2000 — Lewis agrees to a plea bargain — his murder and aggravated assault charges are dropped in exchange for his testimony against Sweeting and Oakley. As part of the deal, he also pleads guilty to obstruction of justice (for telling people in his limo to keep quiet) and receives a year of probation.

August 17, 2000 — NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue fines Lewis $250,000 for obstructing the police investigation. That amount is believed to be the largest fine for an NFL player in cases not involving substance abuse. Tagliabue adds that Lewis will be fined another $250,000 and subject to suspension if he violates his probation.

2003 — Gladys Robinson, Baker’s grandmother, sues Lewis for $10 million. She and Lewis reach an undisclosed settlement.

2004 — The family of Kellye Smith, Richard Lollar’s then-fiancé who was pregnant at the time, sues Lewis (on behalf of her and Lollar’s daughter) for $13 million. They also reach a settlement, which includes a confidentiality clause.

Was ESPN right in actually giving a visible platform to a man whose actions and settlements spoke volumes?

Who's to say? However, IMO when it comes to Pouncey stupidly wearing a hat, having other unsubstantiated innuendos attributed to him - then sorry but until proven otherwise I'm using The Ray Lewis Treatment Team Reaction Litmus Test as far as giving Pouncey and his status as a Fin, the benefit of the doubt.

...
We are under no pressure to pay Pouncey that type of money.
We have him for two more years, We can come to a much fairer contract if we act early.
If he is set on 10 million a year then we should be looking to trade him at some point.

Exactly. Why would we pay a player we can have under contract for TWO more seasons, big money now? Would not make sense. A LOT can happen in two seasons; and if the Dolphins exercise the 5th year option, they control if they trade him next year or not - on THEIR terms. Keep players on their rookie contracts and don't pay until you HAVE to.

Really? When was OJ found guilty of hacking a womans head near off? Off football topic, I am so GD tired of hearing people say wheres the proof or he's not guilty. I'm all for having to prove guilt, and I'd rather let a guilty person free rather than jail an innocent one, but anyone who tries to convince me that Pouncey's a great dude needs his own head examinEd. Found guilty? No. Enough evidence to not want him on my team at 8 mil a year with his punk attitude? Plenty. So if I can get a 1st and a 3rd for him, take it.

So you advocated for the immediate trade of Marshall?

Here's the deal. Your casting your own stones on a guy who has, done nothing illegally wrong.
He has been caught up with questionable people, as much as the Pats and Tom Brady were.

Also, the OJ case was more about social justice, than criminal justice.
But with your analogy, I understand your reasoning process.

Mike Pouncey is a top 3 Centre. He is only 24 and should be a perennial pro bowler.

Pouncey though has been caught up in the bullying scandel and has also not helped himself with the Aaron Hernandez issue. He is now publicly calling for a new contract.

I love Pouncey the player, but wish he would be more of an in-house team player rather than someone who seems to publicly want to voice his own opinion.

Im not sure which way I would go as I constantly promote re-signing our own players.

Playing Devils advocate, what would you do?

Why trade him if he's Top 3 at his position? The chances of getting that value back for a first or second round pick is almost never possible. If he is as talented as you say he is in Miami needs to keep them

Not sure why all this talk about taking 2nd round draft picks for our young talent (Pouncey and Jordan). It makes no sense.

You are talking apples and oranges here.

Pouncey is a PROVEN PRODUCER, a PRO BOWLER. jordan is a looks-good-on-paper wannabe.

Football is played on grass, not paper.

For all that, our resident geniuses in here want to all send Pouncey packing, yet we must at all costs keep jordan. D'oh.

If you knew who I am and what I am, you would recognize that NO ONE on this board is more interested in "character" and "responsibility" than yours truly... but because I consider the Wells Report to be a biased, racist, self-serving document, I am not prepared to write Pouncey off as thug just yet and send him packing. I don't think the allegations against him are proven to the threshold of doing that and I don't hold it against him that he happened to be ahern's teammate.

So. Was. Tim. Tebow. Is he a murderer?

Pouncey needs to CLEAN UP HIS ACT and keep playing at a high level for this team. jordan has not yet STARTED playing to a level worthy of a roster spot. jordan is several levels south of meh at this point.

You know ima friend, not a foe but, brotha, there's no denying Jordan hasn't been given a chance to prove himself.

On the thread: no devil's advocate. All devil. :)

As Mack has just proven, top-notch centers are worth their weight in gold, so I too would keep him short of a ridiculous offer.

However, speaking theoretically: considering he was a first round pick for us who in general, unlike half the first round selections most any year, actually plays like one, why would or should we take a 2nd for him, or even a first in either year straight up? If anything, his performance should earn us a premium over what we spent beyond a middle of the first round pick.

Theres probably no correlation...probably just a coincedence.....but the two greatest eras in Dolphin history had hall of fame centers hiking to hall of fame quarterbacks.....but it has to be a freak oddity.....yeah.........

If it's a first-rounder I'd do it. But you better have an option to replace him somewhat (because you're not replacing that guy fully) and you better not draft a center with that first pick.

Example: The Jets traded Darrelle Revis for a first-rounder. They drafted Dee Milliner with that pick. So they essentially traded the best corner in football for a rookie, which did not equal anything close to what they had before.

You better be damn sure that you're getting equal or better value. I'd rather have a probowl center than not have a pro bowl center, unless that other player is a difference maker.

you do not give up your best players, period. Pouncey is a fantastic player and has the potential to be the best center we have had since that dbag from the Jets ended Dwight Stephenson's career. i would only consider parting with Pouncey for two firsts.

very few players in the league would net 2 firsts and he is defiantely not one of them
