The offensive system that Philbin wants to run is why I want him fired. The up-tempo, dynamic, high-scoring offense that he promised has never materialized... not under Sherman, and not under Lazor. I will say that Ireland is a huge reason; he filled this team with mostly mediocre-at-best players. That said, Philbin probably has more talent on the roster than Sparano did, yet Philbin and his staff have ruined a once very good defense. Miami was good against the run. Now, if it's 3rd and 20 they give up a 22 yard run. And, they turned an offense that moved well between the 20s but lacked playmakers in the red zone into an offense that can't sustain drives to reach the red zone. A RB converting a 3rd and 1 was automatic pre-Philbin, now they're lucky if they can convert with two tries!
I've "invested" a lot of time and emotion in this team over many years. I see that Philbin is ruining this team, so I'm all for whatever it takes to get rid of him and his staff (or at least most of it). I'm sure some of you will say that I'm not truly a fan if I want them to lose, but the fact that there are a lot of fans who want Philbin fired proves my opinion has some validity.
Edited to add: I like Joe Philbin. He seems like a great guy and a loyal friend (Sherman, for example). I even like his dry sense of humor. But, he's just not cut out to be a Head Coach, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It is what it is, so either he needs to realize this on his own and resign, or Ross has to fire him. Actually, Philbin does have some decent football traits. He'd probably make a good Assistant Head Coach in charge of practices and things of a logistical nature... just keep him away from actual gameday football decisions! He has a good record with challenges, but don't put him in charge of adjustments or time-outs!
I don't like wanting Philbin fired, but the team as a whole is more important than one guy.
