Interesting question posed at Fri Happy Hour. Suh is 29 and an All Pro DT. OV is 25 and a VG pass rusher. Who is the better fit tor this team at this time?

While almost all of the locals really want both, Vernon was the choice between the two.

It was some fun discussion/debate and am curious to the forum response.

Are you kidding me? What were they smoking in that lounge?.....OV a very good pass rusher? He's average at best and Suh is a stud....smh

The group were very knowledgeable long time Phans, including 2 season ticket holders from the 70s with a couple of guys who played in college. The thinking was that Miami is 2-3 years away from contending and that OV was the better long term plan. Everyone likes Suh but, think a pass rusher has more value than a DT.

I don't subscribe to logic that states any NFL team is unequivocably 2-3 years away from contending....it just doesn't work like that.

You go into every season thinking win it all....if the stars align...worst to first is not only possible...its happened.

Moot point. After Suh's impending restructure, that 18M will be spread throughout the remainder of his contract. If Dolphins kept Vernon and parted ways with Suh, the Fins would have so much dead money it would make your head spin.

Suh has more job security than Gase and Tannenbaum.

Suh is without question the better player and he makes it easier for his teammates. Without looking at the stats I would guess that OV had twice as many 15 yard penalties as the "dirtiest player in the league" Suh did so you've got to look at his dumb penalties as a factor as well.

If not restructured, the team has an out after next year with Suh. The dead money would be $10M with the savings being the same. No head spinning, just a ne year wash.

I do not factor in the penalties, as they can be corrected. Same as they were with Suh from his younger years when he was suspended. hurting his team.

If OV is back next year then I certainly hope someone gets through to him about the late hits. I don't think Suh is past that phase either, he just didn't have many truly obvious late or dumb hits last year but there were still numerous ones that were questioned.

Suh. He is much more dominant at his position than Vernon is. I love Vernon and hope Miami keeps him, but think about whose production would be harder to replace.

I also think, as well as the game announcers, that some of OV.s late hits/low hits were questionable. The NFL has listened to the words of Jack Lambert in "putting skirts on QB's." :)
