Wow it blows my mind... Many of the comments made
on this board are Libelous and slanderous.

So and so is a coward... so and so is gutless etc!
I know we love football, but really such venom.

If anyone made these commets to OUR faces, Most of us
would take offense and probably repond with physical
violence. LOL...

I am glad I don't play footbal I couldn't take it. I think I
would waste someone. LOL...

Seriously though it's a "GAME." TRY to remember that.

I hope the NFL players never wake up, because many comments
made on these fan forums could be cause for suit.

Just some food for thought.

I completely agree with you about the tone on the boards being venomous. Especially, considering we are a 4-2 team. Imagine if this team was 0-6?

Legally, however, no player in the NFL would likely ever win a lawsuit over comments made on the board. Here is the standard for public figures:

" public official can win a
libel lawsuit under the First Amendment, only if he or she
can prove "actual malice" on the part of the defendant, where proof of
"actual malice" is defined as proof that the statement was made with
"knowledge that it was false or with reckless disregard of whether it was
false or not."


Even if they can reach this more difficult standard, what are the damages of a single post in a single thread?

They would almost certainly not be worth the time and expense of the suit.
