As we go debate over our so-so lb core, take a look back at what Zach did. Most amazing Dolphin ever besides #13. Did you know he has more tackles than any LB in the HOF and is #6 all time? Check out his stats: http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/985/zach-thomas .

What was your favorite Zach moment? I loved watching him go against Peyton. Manning says he was the toughest defender he ever faced from a strategy standpoint.

Dang I miss #54.

My favorite was the hit on Coles that knocked him out! I was at that game at the opposite end zone and the hit was so loud it sounded like it as 10 yards away!

I've always loved is franchise record 4th INT for a return TD vs the Titans and finishes with a flip into the endzone.

Didn't he do the same thing against Denver in the first game of a season after Denver had won the Super Bowl the previous year? Maybe I'm mistaken.

was about to say that one as well. i have never seen any defensive player that was always around the football like Zach was, his abilities to dissect opposing offenses was amazing to watch.

I know it sounds almost sacrilegious, but my favorite all-time phin is ZT. I missed most of dans glory years. Zt was such a warrior. Small but packs a mean punch and never missed tackles. He was always where the ball was and moved sideline to sideline like none other!

Tackles are one of those misleading stats in football because they're not official compiled by the league. Each team supplies its own counts and uses its own methodology. Some count jumping on the pile as an assist, for example, while others are far more strict.

It's not unlike the imprecise counting of quarterback "comebacks". John Elway got the credit for having more all time comebacks than anybody because the standard the Broncos used for what constituted a comeback was much looser than the Dolphins' standard. When pro football reference's Scott Kacsmar went back and created a unified standard, he found that Marino and not Elway had the record (both have since been surpassed by Peyton Manning).

He was a good LB, but never made plays when it mattered.

Like Walrus said, tackles are overrated and untraceable due to teams using there own stats.

Favorite play was against the Jets. He got called with a bs penalty and then he leveled a Jet player the next play. Knocked them out.

Oh, come off it. "Zach never made plays when it mattered... Shula is overrated..."

Zach Thomas was great - I loved him - he is HOF material...

But he is not even the 2nd best LB in the history of the Dolphins.

That goes to Offerdahl - Buonocotti was the best - he has HOF and 17-0 and SB rings to prove it.

Thomas is on the top 20 all time Dolphins though.

He didn't, he just racked up tackles.

Big whoop.

Shula couldn't win with Marino, having a lot of wins is meaningless when you only have 2 SBs 3 decades before you quit coaching.

I have been on record as saying that I think Zach Thomas was a bit overrated. I think he was an overachiever and a good player but not a great player and isn't hall of fame worthy. He was limited physically, as demonstrated by the way he was always manhandled when he faced a good offensive lineman like Kevin Mawae. As someone else has already said, he was not even as good as John Offerdahl. His failure in big games always bothered me.
