From today's chat. Here's John Clayton's wonderfully insightful answer to my question...

Phil (Rochester, NY): John, thanks for taking questions today. If AJ Feeley falters this year, what replacements might Miami look at? The 2006 draft doesn't look strong for QBs, Leinart aside, and the free agent QBs are seldom a good option.

John Clayton: (2:34 PM ET ) If they are back in the top five of the draft, they could go for Leinart from USC.

Wow, thanks.

I've always thought that the ESPN guys know very little about football, and pretty much just repeat what they hear from others and take it on as their own. This is a great example of John Clayton not knowing who is even eligable to be drafted at the QB position next season, and giving the obvious answer. He obviously has no clue how to answer the question......

That was a complete waste of your valuable time, Phil. What a lame answer.

Well, to be fair, if my time was THAT valuable, I wouldn't have been chatting in the first place. But thanks. :)

I can't stand clayton. The man never played football in his life. Was probably never picked for street ball either. He knows nothing about the sport and goes with the general Mainstreem thought

Do you really want advice on football from

To be fair to the great kazoo, if AJ Feeley falters, and Gus Frerotte proves to be an insufficient replacement, a top 5 pick in the draft is not just a real possibility, but a likely one...and if that is indeed the case, the ONLY quarterback in this class, as of right now, who may deserve top 5 standing, is Matt Leinart. After that, it's a huge dropoff, to guys who are probably 2nd rounders at best. That could change, mind you, since by this time before the 2004 draft Rivers was a 3rd rounder, and this time before the 2005 draft Alex Smith was a 2nd rounder...but still, you can't ask the great kazoo to be a prognosticator, if he's looking at the field right now, it's Leinart or nothing.

See, you lost all your credibility there. Anyone worth his salt knows it's the Great Gazoo.
