I just don't see how Miami cannot keep this guy. Williams would be a perfect fit in the Dolphins’ new offense. He would serve as a first-down grabbing possession receiver, another deep threat that would force safeties to play a little farther up, opening the playbook for deep passes and short screens alike and the running game. His presence would assure that, at any given time, Wallace is not going to see any double team.

Williams has been one of the team's go-to deep threats and has looked pretty darn good at it. Williams hauled in a perfectly thrown 54-yard bomb from second-team QB Matt Moore last game, showing off speed, hands and the ability to track the ball on the run. He is versatile as he can return punts and kicks. He is a true WC receiver because of his YAC. With Wallace, Hartline and Landry locks to make the 53, Williams, Matthews and Gibson may force Miami to keep six WRs.

If Miami are going with just 5 WRs, I personally prefer this guy over Mathews because he offers more and he is more QB friendly. But that's just me not trying to stir the pot.

I get what you're saying and want Williams to make the roster as well. But the reality is that he would not be likely to see any playing time (and possibly not even suited up most games). It's not like you're going to have packages with him opposite Wallace in a 4WR set. As long as they are healthy, Hartline, Gibson, Landry, and even Matthews will be in that role first. That's just how a WR depth chart works, especially for a "by the book" kind of coach like Philbin.

Impressive catch radius though. Wonder what Hartline's would be.

Wish may be granted.

More and more looks like we will only keep 3 RB's (Moreno, Miller, Williams)

Leaving us open for additional WR's or TE's

I like him and he has done well. However, I do not see them keeping a vested vet like Williams as the 6th receiver. Now, if they cut Gibson or trade Matthews, then he makes it. I am not sure he is a difference maker on special teams.

If he can KR/PR then he should have a slot.

Thiggy adds nothing to this team but being a pure KR/PR and is OK at best at that.

If Williams can take over and also add depth to WR then I'm all for it.

still don't understand why people talk about cutting one of this team's best receivers

Interesting player. In his 4 seasons, 54 games in Tennessee, (17 as a starter) he completed 1313 yards and scored 5 TDs in 2011. He is a polished route runner and at 26 is not over the hill. He adds good quality depth to our WR corps and can play special teams.
I doubt that we run with 6 WRs but it would be a pity to cut him.

Hope they do cuz I think I have more faith in him than in Wallace. :idk:

second that!

Seriously, every headline from practice is how he beats Will Davies for a deep TD, and Finnegan and co for a deep ball and he shows it in game like the one we all saw last game.

Players get tired, players get dinged up. If this offense is as up-tempo and reliant on spreading the formation out, keeping six receivers is necessary and every one of them will be suited up. I remember a game Tannehill's rookie year when we were forced to three receiver sets at most because our receivers were getting hurt, and Marlon Moore was out there as the third receiver. you can never have enough receivers.

If we keep 2 QBs, there is room for 4 RBs, 4 TEs, 6 WRs, and 9 OL, which would equal 25 offensive players. On defense, 9 DL, 7 LBs, and 9 DBs, for 25, plus the 3 specialists to make 53.

I'd prefer to see Damian is the primary punt returner and Damien as the KO returner. I have not noticed if we've used Damian as a gunner on punt coverage, but that would help his cause too, and often a WR is who fills those roles.
