If we keep 2 QBs, there is room for 4 RBs, 4 TEs, 6 WRs, and 9 OL, which would equal 25 offensive players. On defense, 9 DL, 7 LBs, and 9 DBs, for 25, plus the 3 specialists to make 53.
We should go 2 qbs, no one else is worth it.
Im going out and saying both williams and darkwa make it with both being hard runners, possessing solid catching ability, and special teams flexibility. Really intruiged by both backs and we should develop both. Moreno needs to start because hes clearly our pure runner. Leg drive, vision, grit, pass block, he has the most complete skillset of our backs. I like miller as a change of pace back but i have to say doesnt look that enthused out there and even the package of him and moreno is sort of flawed because hes not that good of a receiver or at breaking tackles. Millers speed is worth it on occasion because when he does get space he takes it pretty fast.
We keep six WR with damian as a secondary deep threat to wallace and kickoff return. Remember, philbin was most impressed with wallace coming in as a speed receiver that caught most his passes within 15yards, we dont need wallace to go deep every play. With our big slot, vertical passing game to open up those quick passing lanes for wallace, williams deep on a 4th corner taking the safety sounds pretty good for the surrounding area for the rest of the group. You cant have enough speed sometimes and having a package with wallace, williams, and lamar miller instantly makes gibson/clay/hartline/landry that much more open. Plus, it looks like Thigpens transition to wr has been a dud, really set that guy up for failure because hes clearly a 3rd down scat back/ KR. Even with a good game I think he gets cut.
TE- agree with 4 with clay, sims, lynch, hoskins. Clay is primed for a great year, has really tuned in and fits this scheme so well. The motioning and quick snaps and multiple positions he can play really mesh with our receiving core and he is going to be open a lot. Sims has been blocking so well this preseason, hes noticebly stronger and playing faster. Lynch starting to practice and will already be better than egnew in this scheme. Lynch has the size, confidence, and football iq to be a solid player for us; plays within himself and provides run blocking ability and as an intermediate passing threat. hoskins looks like a clay/ david martin hybrid that could play as an h-back and provide special teams play. Cant wait to see what packages we use with this group. Even like a 3 te set with clay/sims/lynch/wallace/moreno can cause some concern. It goes from a 2te set with clay as fb on a power play, no huddle, quick shift, all TEs on the line same side, wallace opposite deep, and its a read option/screen/draw/pa/ formation shift. I can see this group getting more production as the season goes on.
OL- Albert/Colledge/pouncey/smith/james/satele/turner/garner/ thomas. Juwan james getting tons of reps against wake in practice, tons of reps in preseason on multiple units, good pick. Albert, Bonafide. Shelley smith needs to start, with wilfork around the corner we need some stregth helping Satele out sealing him out of our backfield. Sucks turner has turf toe, if they put him on the PUP to hold on to someone I would say Brenner gets to stay. Overall i can say that im liking the progress of the line.
