WR Donte Moncrief to workout with Fins this week

Mississippi Rebels product Donte Moncrief is expected to be a mid-round pick in this year’s deep crop of wide receiver prospects, and he’s viewed by many as a big sleeper prospect due to his physical tools and efficiency against difficult competition in the SEC. Moncrief, of course, has his detractors, but he could be a good value option for teams looking to add a quality WR4 to the mix.

The NFL Network’s Gil Brandt reports that the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins will work out Moncrief next week, and both teams look like nice fits for him on paper. While neither team will spend much time looking to add a WR, Moncrief could be a solid contributor for either club, especially down the road. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have Mike Wallace, Charles Clay, Brian Hartline, and the underrated Brandon Gibson, but bringing in Moncrief as a WR4 would do them some good. It would be a way for either of these teams to pick up WR help without paying much for it.

Moncrief looks like a quality third-round prospect, and teams are hoping that he can be a quality No. 3 wide receiver in their offenses. He has all the raw tools with a great mix of size and speed, but he isn’t a consistent player.

What did Daytona post? I couldnt take my eyes of his pick.... I would like to draft a wr but not sure 3rd makes sense with the needs we have

Don't really care on the order but based on need our first 3 picks should be corn, LB and a WR/TE.

From what I have read the consesius is he is the number 1 sleeper at WR in this draft. I would be ok with us taking him. Seems to have good size and speed.

I like the player...seems to be undervalued...if it's size we are looking for I would target him...not pick 50 but any pick there after...solid prospect

STRENGTHS: Moncrief's thick frame, deceptive speed and smooth route-running make him a nightmare for cornerbacks. He does not possess the explosive moves of Southern Cal's Marqise Lee or Clemson's Sammy Watkins but might be a better player than either of them. He is sudden in his breaks, showing the ability to generate separation even against tight man coverage, and accelerates quickly, often leaving defenders in his dust on double-moves. Moncrief tracks the ball well and generally shows excellent hands (one drop vs. Texas), as well as the body control to make the dazzling grab. Moncrief is also cognizant in the running game, showing awareness and toughness as a downfield blocker

WEAKNESSES: Perhaps the only thing standing in Moncrief's way of becoming the first "skill-position" player from Mississippi to earn a first round draft selection since Eli Manning (No. 1 overall, 2004) is the question about his straight-line speed. Moncrief was not caught from behind on tapes viewed but the big-bodied receiver may not possess elite timed speed. (but yet ran a 4.4 at the combine)

Would be elated if we got him in the 3rd. Could be a steal in that round.

It looks like his speciality is the deep ball. Tannehill needs to learn to throw it better.

Common perception doesn't have him as a 1st RD player, but a lot of people who follow the draft have him as a 1st RD player. I have him as the 4th best WR and 18th best player in the draft. He's murdered NFL CB's, and he left Eric Reid in the dust in 2012. His numbers aren't what you'd like, but he was dealing with extra attention, a bumbling QB, and a super talented teammate at WR - who provided an excellent target for Wallace when Moncrief drew extra attention.

If you're looking for a big, strong, lighting fast WR, look at Julio Jones' combine performance, and then look at Moncrief's. You're getting that kind of athlete. And he put up 1,900+ yards and 16 TD's in two seasons. We're not talking poor production (especially given his situation). I know Slimm has him rated ahead of Lee. I have Evans, Lee, and Moncrief as very close. I can see why some people rate him as a 2nd RD prospect (though, again, I don't), but anything lower? I think that's nuts.

Also, there's no prospect in this class that's built to take a quick slant to the house like Donte Moncrief. If he gets an angle on you, he's too strong and fast.

Meant to leave the links for combine profiles:

So Shazier in first and Moncrief in second would be an outstanding draft delivering much needed talent and athleticism to this team!
