WR Free Agent roundup

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ins_Free_Agency_Preview_Wide_Receivers-240208

Nice article on possible Wide Receiver Free Agents. Didnt see it posted. If it was my apologies

Randy Moss - No way...Has proven to be a deadly cancer when he is not placed in a winning situation.

Bernard Berrian - I wouldnt mind him

DJ Hackett - Battled injury all year but IMO has the talent to be a very good WR

Donte Stallworth - No way

Bryant Johnson - I wasnt high on him at all but given the crop of available FA recievers Im starting to change my tune.

Keyshawn Johnson - I was high on him until he started talking about breaking the bank with a new contract. He isnt worth more than 2 - 2.5 million a year

what does Keyshawn want?????

Im not sure exactly but remember last year he turned down the Titans offer of 2 years 8 million.

"After catching 70 passes for 815 yards in 2006 with the Carolina Panthers, his fourth team in 11 NFL seasons, Johnson was released and attracted interest from several suitors, most notably the Tennessee Titans. In May, he turned down a two-year contract offer worth nearly $8 million from the Titans, instead signing a lucrative, four-year deal with ESPN.

Though Johnson declined to get into monetary specifics Monday, it is not likely that his asking price has come down. Yet the amount of cash he is likely to seek from an NFL team might not be realistic for someone in his situation."

He is crazy if he thinks hes worth 2 year 8 million dollar deal... Maybe 2 for 6 but def no higher than that

I really want to give DJ.Hackett a chance, IF he could stay healthy he's a really talented wr. B.Johnson would be nice to, signing both these guys would give us great depth and allow the draft picks to be used on other needs. Really it makes sense to sign two WR's this off-season when the overall talent isn't that deep (top ended just not deep) in the other FA positions.

Key needs to be a little realistic. He's been off for over a year and he's not going to be playing anything more than a role player (#3 WR) and mentor to the younger guys. If he wants $$ anywhere close to what Tenn was offering him, he won't be coming to Miami. Berrian, Hackett and B.Johnson are the interesting WR's I'd look at. But with such a weak WR draft class coming out, how overpriced will the f/a WR's get this year ?

WR is actually the one position that i wouldn't mind spending some money in FA on. the draft is too iffy for WR's and we need a #1 in a big way. guys like berrian or johnson would be just fine with me. beck desperately needs a consistent target if he has any chance of success.

ANDRE DAVIS ANDRE DAVIS ANDRE DAVIS!

Get him and Bryant Johnson! That way we have two KRs with great speed and ability and two deep threats as well. Plus we will have Johnson as our studly possession receiver. If not Johnson then Hardy in the draft. But for the love of God get Andre Davis! He totally filled in for Andre Johnson when he went down so much so that you hardly noticed he was out.

D.J. Hacket or Bryant Johnson would be perfect, IMO.

Keyshawn wouldn't be a bad #3 WR, neither would Andre Davis or a rookie 3rd rounder.

Uhhh yeahhhh...

Whatever happened to him "Being replaced by a 4th string scrub" .....

Just kidding around:up:

I knew it was just a matter of time till you came over to the good side :winkwink:

I have seen MUCH of Bryant Johnson over the last three years. He would be a VERY good FA pickup. Maybe not a Pro-Bowl reciever, but he runs good routes, would be relatively cheap, is a VERY good character guy, and is absolutely clutch with his hands...

:sidelol: Lol... Yeah yeah yeah... Well after I saw the list of available FA WR's in the column he moved up. I dont know who I would put at the top of the list though. From an experience standpoint it would be Berrian (I think he was the product of a horrible QB and given the right situation would do very well). I would be torn between Johnson and Hackett.

Really!?! Aren't you the guy who blasted Bryant Johnson in my thread? I won't quote any of your previous posts. It would be too embarrassing for you.

Unlike some (wink, wink) I haven't "changed my tune". I like Bryant Johnson and feel he is the perfect size, fit and price for this offense. Here is what I wrote in a previous thread comparing the FA receivers...

Ted Ginn is clearly the deep threat receiver on this team and any mention of him as only a return man by our new staff will not be made. Our "possession" receiver, Marty Booker, under performed in the role last year and has subsequently been released, leaving a void for a big, tall, and athletic receiver. I have read all the names and seen all the posts and it is my opinion that Bryant Johnson is the best fit! This team has money to spend on FA’s and I am of the belief the bulk of it should go toward…DEFENSE. However, the offensive side of the ball should not be ignored and the combination of talent and the bargain price tag make Johnson an excellent choice.

Bryant Johnson is 6’3", 216 pounds and 27 years of age. He has sure hands, is big enough to go over the middle, and his size makes him a solid red zone threat.

Other options:

Trading for Chad Johnson: Costs too much in trade, costs too much in salary. This move will limit other moves.

Bernard Berrian: Shorter, lighter and same age. Too similar in size to Ginn and will cost more.
Andre Davis: Shorter, lighter and older. Not exactly an over the middle or possession guy.
Devery Henderson: Also shorter and lighter but he is younger (25). He has a problem with dropping balls. A problem I don’t think anyone here in Miami is willing to take the time to correct.
Drew Carter: Similar in height but 15 pounds lighter. He is younger (25) but not as athletic or as physical.

Bryant Johnson was a 1st round pick in the 2003 NFL draft. He was selected 17th overall by the Arizona Cardinals who also selected Anquan Boldin that year with the 54th pick. Boldin adapted quicker to the NFL with 101 receptions, 1377 yards, and 8 TD’s. He was named Rookie of the Year and was selected to the Pro Bowl. Arizona then selected Larry Fitzgerald 3rd overall in the 2004 draft. The combination of Boldin and Fitzgerald has left little room for Bryant to grow into the Arizona offense. As a former first round pick overshadowed by two other talents he now has the opportunity to play elsewhere and show why he was selected 17th overall. He has four years experience in the league and some believe he is ready to breakout once out from under Boldin and Fitzgerald. As the 3rd option in Arizona he has not been beaten up, nor has he posted numbers that would command a huge FA contract. This guy is big. This guy is talented. This guy is a bargain!

Johnson is the type of possession receiver that Miami should have its eye on, although I think that Derek Hagan can be just as good as Johnson. Johnson gets a lot of attention because he was a first-round draft pick, but I think it's fair to say at this point that he isn't a first-round talent.
Of course, that is no reason to exclude him from consideration as a free agent. What may be a viable reason to exclude him is the fact that he dropped four passes out of only 89 targets. Of course, he is still only 26 years old, and Parcells loves big possession receivers, so I expect Miami to take a serious look at Johnson.

pimping Hagan and slamming Johnson?

awful

he pefers a possession receiver with butter fingers?
