A source confirmed today that the Dolphins are using one of their 30 permitted non-local visits on LSU receiver Odell Beckham, who many analysts believe could be selected in the top 20.

Beckham told Sirius Satellite Radio today that he plans to meet with Miami, and a league source confirmed he's visiting Davie this coming week.

That means the Dolphins are using at least three (and possibly more) of their maximum 30 permitted visits on high-end receivers. USC’s Marqise Lee, projected to go in Miami’s range, visited this past week. Mississippi’s Donte Moncrief, a potential second-rounder, also has booked a visit.

And Miami also has been linked to two other receivers expected to go in the late teens or early 20s: Oregon State’s Brandin Cooks and FSU’s Kelvin Benjamin.

Which all raises the question: If the Dolphins are perfectly content with their receiver group, why are they summoning several potential first- and second-round receivers to Davie?

Due diligence? Perhaps.

STRENGTHS: Smooth athlete with very good acceleration to get up to top speed quickly. Terrific shake and burst out of his cuts to beat press and do something after the catch - dangerous with the ball. Excellent vision with dynamic moves. Good footwork, timing and depth in his routes to create separation and catch the ball well in stride.

Much improved hands, doing a nice job elevating and extending to snare the ball from the air - large catching radius and tracks well. Ball appears to slow down for him at the catch point, making fluid adjustments with natural body control.

Speedy and explosive return man on special teams with vision, awareness and toughness to create - two career punt returns for scores. Consistent production all three seasons at LSU with career-highs in 2013.

WEAKNESSES: Only average height and overall body strength - room to get stronger. Lacks elite speed and can be caught from behind by NFL DBs. Timid at times over the middle.

Has improved leaps and bounds catching the ball with his hands, but he will still have the occasional drop off his mitts. Missed blocking assignment and needs technique work in this area.

Room to improve his judgment and consistency fielding punts. Only 12 career receiving scores in 34 career starts.

COMPARES TO: Cecil Shorts, Jacksonville Jaguars - Beckham and Shorts are both exciting players with the ball in their hands and have shown steady improvements catching the ball over the years.

Probably due diligence or maybe a not so subtle hint to the other WRs on the team that they better step it up.

Let all the panic and hysteria start, if the front office has determined that the WR's may not be healthy enough or that they need to be upgraded then so be it. Would prefer this scenario then we get caught short handed once again at the position.

They have been spending a lot of their allotted visits on wide receivers. Could be a smoke screen but maybe there is something going on behind the curtain.

But having the receivers travel to team headquarters and meet with the coaches and front office suggests more than simple due diligence, especially because the Dolphins already have met with all these receivers at the Combine.

The Dolphins consistently have denied Jason LaCanfora’s report that they’re shopping Wallace, and Wallace is also under the impression that the story is not accurate.

But if the Dolphins do add a receiver in the first three rounds, it will raise questions about their intentions with Wallace in 2015 and beyond.

Crazy i guess they are either worried about the injuries or don't like Wallace as the top guy

Or its about Brian Hartline and cap in 2015. I would think if they draft Beckham or Cooks they would upgrade Gibson to the #2 and let Hartline go.

This is more likely about our WR corps in 2015 and beyond. I don't see any way they part with Wallace, Hartline or Gibson this offseason. Not happening IMO. But maybe they will decide to part ways with one of them next offseason via trade.

Im getting the vibe that Wallace gets traded for a second and sixth round pick soon....

YES! This is the guy I want in the first!!! He's a stud! A better Antonio Brown!

Our receivers suck, lets get someone real
