Everyone needs to stop griping about the reverses that Linehan is calling. I realize that they weren’t effective yesterday, and haven’t been the last few times they were called, but they have been effective this season as a whole, and yesterday aside, have not once been a detriment to this team. In fact, yesterday was the first game this year where drives containing a WR reverse did NOT end in a scoring opportunity.

Here’s a rundown of the 9 times this year which we ran a reverse…….#5 against TB was called back due to penalty, but was still a reverse. Note the success of these drives in which we ran reverses. 8 drives – 3 FG’s , 1 Missed FG (from opp 3yd line), 1 TD, 1 turnover on downs (from opp 5yd line) and then the 2 punts yesterday. So we scored on 50% of these drives and were in great scoring position on two others.

1. Week 1 vs Denver – 1st and 10 @ MIA18 – Chambers for 61 yds to DEN21 – First Down – Drive result – 29yd FG
2. Week 2 vs NYJ – 2nd and 8 @ NYJ 32 – Chambers for 8 yds to NYJ 32 – First Down – Drive result - MISSED 21yd FG.
3. Week 3 vs CAR – 1st and 10 @ MIA 40 – Welker for 5 yds to MIA45 – Drive result – 41yd TD pass.
4. Week 6 vs TB – 2nd and 6 @ MIA 47 – Chambers for 19yds to TB34 – First Down.
5. (same drive) 2nd and 10 @ TB 34 – Chambers for 34yds TOUCHDOWN – NULLIFIED BY PENALTY – Drive result – 47yd FG.
6. Week 6 vs TB – 1st and 10 @ TB 37 – Chambers FUMBLE –7ds to TB44 – Drive result – Turnover on Downs @ TB5.
7. Week 8 vs NO – 2nd and 6 @ NO41 – Chambers for –1yd to NO42 – Drive result 36yd FG
8. Week 9 vs ATL – 2nd and 3 @ MIA41 – Chambers for –12 to MIA29 – Drive result – Punt
9. Week 9 vs ATL 2nd and 3 @ MIA 42 – Chambers for –1 to MIA41 – Drive result – Punt.

they havent been effective as of late because the defense knows we are going to do at least one a game and the study film.

Umm, no. Enough is enough, we've run more then enough for 3 seasons.

The defenses knowing that we are going to run them helps keeps them honest and holds the back-side pursuit. This helps our rushing offense as a whole.

Honestly, the double-reverse yesterday wasn't a THAT bad call (of course the end result was bad, but the decision wasn't)....becasue if they were waiting on a reverse....which they seemed to be, sending it back the other way could have resulted in a big gain. If you watch the play, Babineaux is attacking Booker, and only trips up Chambers while tackling Booker. If Chambers doesn't get tripped up there.....looked like a lot of running room the other way.

It's similar to throwing deep.....it may not result in a completion, but the residual effect is that the defense will loosen up and you'll have more room underneath.

i don't have a problem with the reverses, i have a problem with every 3rd down throwing a screen pass.

Slightly off topic but does anyone remeber that reverse that james mcknight took 80 odd yards a few years back, that was sweet

Trick plays are a sign of weakness....not strength.

WR reverses are not so mch trick plays as they are misdirection plays.....get the D going one way and go the other. Are Counter plays trick plays??

It's not like we are talking HB passes and flea-flickers here. I guess the double-reverse would qualify as a trick play....but they only ran that once.

You should ask some Charger fans if they think that LT's 3 TD passes are a sign of weakness???

I disagree. That play has been run too much already this season. There is no guarntee that a team will run ONE reverse throughout a game and we are trying 3+. Its not only the play call itself, its the times during the game that the play is called. On 2nd and short?!?, why would you run a reverse on a short yardage play. Very odd play calling in yesterdays game.

The problem I have with the reverses that they were called when we were moving the ball extremely effective with our running game. So instead of picking up 5 yards going forward, we lose 15 yards and almost fumbled the handoff between the receivers. Stupid call.

God, i gotta agree. Especially if you don't block the backside down. Why not just pound the ball, i also see this call as a weakness.

I loved the reverses in the beginning of the year. They were something new and obviously threw the defense off guard against Denver. However, they are getting old now and not worth it. It seems like Linnehan wants to run the ball with Chambers more than he wants to pass the ball to him

Well, what would be the correct down and distance to run a play that looses 15 yards??? The play wasn't designed to fail like it did....but the DE just blew it up. Had Chambers avoided the DE, everyone would have loved the call.

Bottom line you are an offense in trouble when you have to use a WR to run the ball having 2 good rb's. Makes no sense. It seems very "MAC 10" to me..
