Wright showing signs of breaking into Dolphins’ lineup soon

Miami

Word from Miami is that rookie DT Manuel Wright has been coming on of late in practice and is growing closer to making his regular-season debut with the Dolphins after being inactive during the first half of the season. We hear that Wright has rebounded nicely after a rocky start to his pro career following his selection in the fifth round of the NFL’s supplemental draft this past summer. He showed up out of shape and unprepared for the rigors of professional football, notoriously crying after being yelled at by head coach Nick Saban. However, since that time, Wright has worked hard, shedding 25 pounds and earning the respect of Miami’s veteran players and coaches with his perseverance. In fact, when asked how close Wright is to playing in a game, Saban said, “Probably one injury away to an inside guy.†For his part, Wright told PFW that he knows he still has work to do. “I need to use my hands more. Coach Saban knows that I have the ability and speed. I just have to learn the scheme better and use my hands a little bit more

That's great news. After TC, I had my doubts about him. He definitely has the talent, but it seemed that he would never get his head right. His attitude now sounds great. Hopefully he can be a big contributor for us next year.

that's good to hear. Thanks for the info. I knew he would come around. I just think that with everything that happened to him in such a short amount of time that he was nowhere ready to jump in and break the lineup. I'm looking forward to hearing the announcer say his name for allot of years to come (and of course not for offsides or anything like that)

Thats good to hear about Wright. I knew that Saban could push him and make him work hard. I just wonder when Saban will actually put Wright out on the field.

Hope he's doing well, but being "one injury away to an inside guy" isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. Means we wouldn't play him now if we didn't have to.

And if Vickerson comes back from that injury and continues to progress we could be looking good at DT for years to come.

it means he is not ready to be a starter or a top rotation guy, but if we had to play him we would feel confident in doing so.

He's got natural athletic ability for a guy his size. Wait until he participates in a full offseason conditioning program.
