AFC East by Tim Graham.
"No big surprise here, but New York Jets quarterback Brett Favre has withdrawn from the Pro Bowl.
He was diagnosed with a torn biceps tendon in his throwing arm after the season. Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers was the first alternate, but he declined because of a knee injury. Kerry Collins of the Tennessee Titans was the second alternate and accepted.
Also named to the Pro Bowl on Tuesday was Miami Dolphins rookie Jake Long, the No. 1 pick in last year's draft. He will replace Buffalo Bills left tackle Jason Peters, who suffered a late-season knee injury.
Favre and Peters didn't deserve to go to Honolulu anyway -- at least not on playing merit.
Favre threw 22 touchdown passes and just as many interceptions, leading the NFL in the latter category. Still, he accumulated the most votes in fan balloting, which accounts for one-third of the selection process. Coaches and players also vote.
Many in the football community were scratching their heads over Peters' selection to a second straight Pro Bowl. He sat out all offseason workouts, training camp and all four preseason games in a futile contract protest.
Peters never regained the form he estabished in 2007. He gave up far too many sacks and missed three games."
Colins over Penny? Are they insane? I could have SWORN It was Rivers then Pennington.
